(Y/n's) Pov
I retreated, my eyes fixed on the shadowy figures, as they advanced with an unnerving synchrony. Their silence was more terrifying than any threat, and I knew I had to act.
With a surge of adrenaline, I darted toward the bedside table, grasping for the lamp. My fingers closed around it, and I hurled it at the figures. The lamp shattered, casting shards of glass and darkness.
The shadows paused, momentarily stunned, giving me a fleeting advantage. I seized the opportunity, dashing toward the door.
As I reached for the handle, a cold, dark tendril wrapped around my wrist, jerking me back. I spun around, facing the figures, now mere inches away.
Their eyes blazed with an otherworldly hunger, and I knew I was staring into the abyss. A faint whisper echoed in my mind: "Alastor's protection is gone."
Suddenly, Vox's Pawn materialized beside me, their presence a stark contrast to the darkness. With a swift motion, they dispatched the shadowy figures, banishing them back into the depths of Hell.
Breathless, I turned to the Pawn. "Why did you help me?"
Their smile was enigmatic. "Let's just say, my allegiance lies with those who would keep the shadows at bay. Husker and I...we're working together to ensure your safety, and Alastor's."
My eyes widened. "Husker? But why?"
The Pawn's expression turned serious. "Alastor's control is precarious, Y/N. If he loses you, he'll unravel. Husker and I aim to prevent that. We're protecting you both, from the shadows and from yourselves."
I felt a shiver run down my spine. "What do you mean?"
"Alastor's power grows stronger by the day," the Pawn explained. "If he succumbs to his darkness, Hell itself will tremble. Husker and I are ensuring that doesn't happen."
I processed this revelation, my mind reeling. The Pawn's words painted a dire picture, one where Alastor's control hung by a thread.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
The Pawn's gaze locked onto mine. "You deserve to know the truth, Y/N. You're entwined in this delicate balance. Together, we'll keep the shadows at bay and Alastor's darkness in check."
With that, they vanished, leaving me to ponder the weight of their words.
As I stood there, trying to process the events, a realization dawned: I was now a part of a hidden world, one where allegiances were complex and the stakes were higher than I ever imagined.
