Don't Look Back

August 22nd, 2024. Time, 10:02 AM. Location, the Caucasus Mountains.

Mission: Exterminate the shy guy.

It had been four hours since Ace had seen another life form as he made his way through the snow capped mountains. He was playing the song "Premonition" by Toby Fox from his chest, humming to the piano slowly as he walked higher and higher. He'd received a picture from his lover, Marie, and was told supposed rumors about a beasts existence. He soon found a thin, dried trail of blood leading up to a small cavern, where he could pick up the sound of gentle sobbing. Ace made his way towards the cavern entrance, letting the music static out to a halt.

Rumors had been flowing for weeks about some monster that tended to hide in mountainous regions, a beast that killed if it's face was viewed. No matter where you ran or where you hid, it would always find and vanquish it's prey. In another world, this monster went by two separate names. The Shy Guy, and SCP 096. The SCP foundation was an international organization designed to secure, contain, and protect anomalous or supernatural entities from the world, keeping the majority of humanity in the dark. And 096 had appeared in this new world on accident, having followed a D-class SCP member through a portal in order to kill him. But now, it didn't know how to go back, and had been moving from mountain to mountain to keep itself away from others.

The Shy Guy licked cracked blood from it's lips, tears gently pouring down it's sour cream colored face. It then heard soft static, before turning to look at the cavern entrance. Ace stood there, cocking his head to the side as he questioned whatever he was looking at.

"What in the Hell are you...?"
He asked, blinking twice. The Shy Guy saw him, and began to scratch at his face as his mouth opened agape, starting to scream and cry. Why did someone have to interfere, couldn't these humans leave it alone? It could feel the rage boiling back up again, before 096 began letting his jaw extend to inhuman lengths. He jumped to his feet, charging at Ace with murderous intent. Anything that had seen it's face had to die, and Ace was no exception. He sped out of the way, only for the Shy Guy to turn on it's heels and bolt after him. Despite this thing's 2+ meter size and thin frame, it had a velocity no human invention could achieve.

"Oh boy, here we go!"
He exclaimed, before locking hands with the Shy Guy and entering into a grudge match. The two growled at each other for a moment, before the Shy Guy's initial low shock wore off and he began screaming once again. Having had enough of these tantrum noises, Ace reared back and slammed into the Shy Guy with a headbutt, knocking the beast into the cavern wall. Neither of the two seemed to sustain any actual damage, as the bruise left on the Shy Guy's forehead quickly healed itself.

"Well I'll be, you're stronger than you look."
Ace chuckled, looking at the beast. It then lunged for him again, only to narrowly miss a swipe with it's freakishly sharp nails. Ace ducked, striking the beast with a silver-knuckled uppercut. The monster bled, but that barely did anything to slow it down. It swiped again, cleaving into the cavern walls as Ace ducked and dodged.
When it finally got it's hands on him in a fierce grip, he spun back and kicked the beast in the jaw, forcing the Shy Guy's mouth shut on itself and causing it to bite it's own tongue off. Seizing the free moment, Ace cocked his fist back and knocked a haymaker into it, throwing the Shy Guy out of the cavern and through the air, landing a few hundred feet below where it was once. He glanced at the tongue, noticing how it quickly writhed. The blood was red, but when he clicked a small button on the side of his glasses, it zoomed in to find the blood cells were moving at a rampant pace.

Every cell was regenerating and creating new cells at a rampant pace, but the tongue soon died off. He picked up the tongue, dusted it off, and took a small bite out of it. Tough, difficult to chew, a standard muscle. But when the blood entered his mouth, he got a ballistic flash of the creatures mind. Screaming, burning pains, and crying in utter torment.

"...Yeah, this shit isn't normal."

He was then interrupted by the shaking of the mountain and the loud shrill of the Shy Guy, hearing it's gallop up the mountain. He walked out of the cavern entrance, seeing the thing charge up towards him with stronger intentions than before.

"Regeneration, superhuman durability, and speed/strength. Now this is what I'm looking for!"
Ace exclaimed, speeding down the slope to take this monster head on again. He lunged, tackling it and beginning to tumble down the mountain side as the two beat into each other. Ace then formed a ball of blue energy in his hand, curving it into a spinning buzz saw and slamming it into the Shy Guy's neck. It cut skin and muscle, but began sparking against the bone. It was black in coloration, and seemingly unbreakable.

"Oh you've gotta be kidding me!"
He yelled, before being gripped by the face and the Shy Guy began dragging him through the granite beneath them. He gritted his teeth, wrapping his other hand in red energy and aiming it at the Shy Guy.
"Go to Hell!"
The blast lit up the sky for a brief moment, a dark crimson color. There was a small crater as a result, and Ace walked out of it, dusting himself off.

"Jesus... What even was that thing?"
He questioned, before turning to the sound of gradual crawling and squelching. Despite the blast the Shy Guy took, it's skeleton was still there. It's upper half had been obliterated, but the skeleton remained intact as new flesh and organs grew back.

"Not human... Not a monster..."
Ace then thought back to what he'd experienced earlier, the absolute mind fuck of information that was the Shy Guy's mind. If this creature wouldn't die, he could at least reprieve it from it's pain.
"It hasn't been tested yet, but no better time to try it out."
He mumbled, beginning to charge a ball of golden energy in his hand. Blue could purify, red could obliterate, but gold? Gold was designed to rewrite something. The Shy Guy roared again, speeding up the side of the crater to attempt his life once more. Ace sighed, closing his eyes and aiming his hands.

"I liberate you from this Hell, find solace in your new silence."
He stated, before firing it at the Shy Guy. Instead of physical damage, it rewrote it's mind. Undoing all of the bad memories, forcing it to forget all those who looked at it's face. The beast stopped, sitting down in silence. No weeps, no tears. Ace then walked over, still keeping his eyes closed. He then grabbed the Shy Guy by the shoulder, hoisted it up gently, and then leapt into the upper atmosphere, using the extra recoil to slingshot the Shy Guy into the vacuum, where no one could ever see it's face again.

Ace landed back down on the mountain, sighing heavily as he wiped a bit of blood from his cheek.

"I can only hope you can forgive me for this, shy one. Enjoy your newfound peace..."
