I woke up still wrapped in Enzo's embrace, his warmth surrounding me. For a moment, I just stared at him, feeling a wave of affection that I couldn't push away. His features were softened in sleep, making him look almost peaceful, different from the intense man I usually saw. My heart squeezed as memories from the previous day came flooding back.*Flashback:*
Enzo's words kept replaying in my mind, each one cutting deeper than the last. I knew it-knew that love wasn't something he was capable of. And then, I overheard his conversation with Marco. The moment I heard his voice, something in me broke. I retreated to my room, feeling a sharp pain in my chest. Tears came before I could stop them, and then Sophie called. I tried to sound normal, but she knew me too well.
"Elena, what happened? Why are you crying? Is everything okay?" Sophie asked, concern lacing her voice.
I hesitated but then spilled everything, the words tumbling out in a mess of emotion.
"Elena, listen," Sophie said gently. "We've always known who Enzo is, but I think you're misunderstanding him. I've seen how he looks at you, how he acts around you. I could be wrong, but there's something there. And even if we're right and he doesn't love you, what now? What's your plan?"
She paused, letting her words sink in before continuing, "I'm with you no matter what decision you make. But for once, just once, try him. Do something to test his feelings. If he has them, he'll confess. Let's meet and talk about this, but until then, keep calm and don't overthink it."
"Thanks, Sophie," I whispered, feeling a bit more grounded. "I'll try to avoid him for now. I just feel like I need some space."
"Whatever makes you feel better, Elena," she said before we hung up.
*Present:*
I tried to keep my distance from Enzo yesterday, but resisting him was impossible. His stubbornness wore me down, and my body betrayed me whenever he was near. He came to my room last night to sleep beside me. I told him to leave, though deep down, I didn't want him to go. And now, as I lay here, I was glad he stayed, even if I pretended otherwise.
Lost in my thoughts, I was startled when I heard his voice, thick with sleep and somehow even more enticing. "What are you thinking about this early?"
"Nothing," I replied quickly, hoping he wouldn't notice the slight tremble in my voice.
I could feel Enzo's gaze on me ,his eyes still heavy with sleep, but there was an amused look in his eyes. He wasn't easily fooled, and I wasn't doing a great job of hiding the whirlwind of emotions inside me.
