CHAPTER ONE
Daphne saw Adrien at the Pediatric International Conference held in New York. She was certain that he saw her too as he kept looking at her as she sat a few seats behind him, but she couldn't be sure if he remembered where they had met, or if he was looking at her to remember where they had met.
Daphne was a pediatric surgeon in a teaching hospital in Boston. She was a young woman in her late twenties, and her originality was Bulgaria. Her slender stature was by choice and her beauty, by nature. She was a brunette with dark brown eyes and not-so-thin lips.
It had been over five years since her incident with Adrien happened, and her then-boyfriend, Thomas, at any given chance, castigated her for a very long time until she decided to break up with him.
Looking at Adrien now, a surge of excitement filled her heart as her mind ran down the memory lane of that night at the hotel.
Someone had walked past her at the lobby of the hotel where she had lodged, to avoid Thomas who had once again, accused her of cheating on him. He was very insecure about her, so he manipulated her into coming to live with him to keep a closer eye on her, which she obliged.
Thomas was handsome and pleasant to behold, and he came from old money, but Daphne wasn't passionate about him or their relationship. She stayed with him because she wanted to make her mother happy.
"This is a big cat you can't afford to lose", her mother would always tell her.
"Every relationship has ups and downs so you can't, because of the downs, end what you've been building with this man from med school, Daph", she would say.
Daphne knew she felt something for Thomas but to her, it was not love.
She recognized the familiar cologne of the man who had just passed her at the hotel that night, and she turned.
"Hey!" She shouted as the man was already a few steps behind her.
The man turned, revealing his face to be Adrien's.
"You!" Adrien said, fascinated, pointing at her as he slowly walked closer to where she stood.
"Yeah... me", Daphne said, smiling, then she remembered the money that she found in her bag that morning when she woke up at the hospital where she 'babysat' Adrien after his horrible drinking experience that caused him to collapse in her bar.
"Right. Did you leave any money... inside my bag before you left the hospital this morning?" She asked.
"Money?" Adrien asked surprisingly, and then he remembered instructing his Personal Assistant to refund the woman who stayed with him at the hospital, the hospital bill that she helped pay for him, and to give her an extra for being there with him, even as he was a stranger to her.
