Chapter One
Anne's Inquiry
"Thank you for your suggestion," Said a gentlewoman from Brighton, I suddenly smiled widely to her before replying with a soft voice. "If I get any problem, I will meet you again, Mr. Lawyer."
Zhengmin Liu, a Taiwanese man in glasses who wears a black suit that contrasts with his bright yellow shirt smiles happily before making his hot milk tea for relaxation. He sipped the drink from his mug which screened a cat picture while sitting without any concern for etiquette at all. The taste of his favourite drink was divine like it was made by gods. During his deep relaxation, the knocking noises suddenly woke him up to come back into his shift.
"Ah! Don't be afraid, you can consult me now." I said with a soft voice before returning to the polite sitting gestures. "What's the topic for today?"
The Nigerian woman doesn't show any facial expressions at all. Still, he feels her sadness through her eyes that hide something inside, which can't be categorised into happiness, grief, or any vengeful mind. She holds the brown envelope tightly before handing it to Zhengmin after she feels a sense of trust inside the bespectacled man.
"Congratulations on your achievement as a world scrabble champion!" The gentlewoman who wears a white shirt smiles widely before handing me a bouquet.
"Ah, I'm not sure that you're bribing me or something, but that's fine if it doesn't contain any money." Zhengmin puts his hands together.
"I can't bribe an honest man like you, sir." Anna Odojinme smiles normally after I take that bouquet. "Would you mind if I ask something about the murder case of Jimmy Odojinme at Richmond?"
"I see. It's also happened near my property." The bespectacled man looks at the cute African girl with his warm eyes, then shifts to his paperwork. "The record from the policemen explained that the man is around 5.9 feet. He was chopped into pieces including his head. Would you mind if I ask about CCTVs?"
"I'm afraid that it was covered by cloth. Due to the lack of physical information, so we didn't know what how the murderer looked like." Anna sighed while analysing the man's reaction. "If I'm not wrong, the policemen found only sleeping pills and anesthetic."
"I think this is the most brutally cold case ever had." Zhengmin rolls up his suit sleeves before getting some stretch. "However, I'm sorry for your loss."
"Thank you, sir." She gives a grateful smile to him before sipping her drinking water, the only drink in her bag.
"According to the photographs, the deceased died around two hours. Maybe the killer isn't going so far." I muttered while analysing the corpse that had the normal condition but with a slight freeze. "It's the effect of actin and myosin. So, do your father usually jog or walk?'
"If I'm not wrong, he was jogging for an hour."
"Ah, my analyses aren't wrong because I noticed that the muscles in the legs were quickly frozen." After considering the emotions, he sends a photo to her. "How about the updates from the policemen?'"
"They're searching for a killer now, but it can be delayed because of these few pieces of evidence," Anna explains with her sincere voice while asking for comfort by looking at Zhengmin. "How about being a lawyer for this case?"
"I'm afraid that I'm just a solicitor. Anyway, I will help you." Suddenly she cried gratefully. "Oh, don't worry because Mr. Reinitis will handle it for you."
"Thank you very much! See you soon." She retakes her brown envelope before walking like a gentlewoman.
Is this a big news that Father Li tells me? Even a junior solicitor who started working for two months like me started working life by handling such a murder case. However, it is a great opportunity to gain some respect rather than working as a consultant for partnerships and general problems only.
