I believe that when the Sun and the moon met, they thought it would only be in passing by. Though, as time went on they realized that they were both there to stay. I also believe that the sun loved the moon and so forth the moon loved the sun. The moon gave the sun not much but it's company and bruised surface, and the sun still loved the moon for who it was. But the moon loved the sun because unlike itself, dull and sad, the sun illuminated the dark. Spreading it's love to all that it's warm light touched. The sun was so sweet, caring for the moon, giving it more love than it felt it deserved. The moon felt seen, by every side, bruised or beautiful, beaten or strong.
Eventually, the moon became dependent on the sun's radiance and couldn't imagine a life without it. So when the moon would spin, facing the darkness once again, it would worry about what it would do when its precious sun would inevitably burn out. When those thoughts began though, the moon would spin back around into the sun's tender embrace, and it would tell the moon that everything will be alright for as long as you feel my light, I am still here for you.
Now the moon hangs on to that warmth, and longs for it every second it is gone. The moon makes sure not to take the warmth for granted because it knows the sun deserves the world, but the moon will try its best to be everything the sun needs and more.
