LOYALTY AND TENACITY
MATSUI RYOTO, the man who used to be the middleweight champion.
11 KOS, 1 Draw. It didn't take long for an opportunity for the world title to open up for him. He challenged a fighter in America, and while residing there for the match, he met a woman in a cafe. She didn't notice him, but he noticed her immediately when he walked in. When it was his turn to order, they locked eyes. It was the softest brown eyes he'd ever seen, and it caused him to slip up while ordering. Even with the slip-up, he ended up with a coffee that had her number written on his order slip.
It was a distraction, he knew that, and he felt bad for not being able to spend time with her--to get to know her. He promised her this; "When you come to my match, you'll see a winner walking in and out of the ring."
He trained for the little bit of time he had left, and when the match came, he walked in with his head up high. When the bell rang, he didn't waste any time. He delivered a barrage of blows and took the initiative, making the match go at his pace. It was all in his favor, until the seventh round.
He was beginning to be afraid. He had used a good amount of his power in the first few rounds, thinking that he could get a quick knockdown and end the match. That wasn't the case. The bell rang again, and the opponent lunged in and threw a few jabs before preparing for a hook. He dodged the hook, but nothing went past him. The first time he encountered someone with killer intent.
He weaved to the left, right where the opponent wanted him. He got himself backed into the corner where he received hits from both sides and the stomach. He had to push through--find an out, but he couldn't. His opponent's punches were heavy, and he tried to withstand it as long as he could. Soon, his body gave up, and the minute he fell, the towel was thrown in.
Three broken ribs, and through all of that pain, devastation and humiliation overtook him. He thought he was stronger, he thought he could do it. It crushed his spirit, crushed to the point where he gave up his belt and quit.
The woman visited him in the hospital when she could. She was there for him at one of his lowest moments. He had something else to look forward to, and that was getting to know the woman who turned out to be the love of his life. Through all of the complications of being from different countries, she was able to move to Japan and soon become his wife--MATSUI SORAYA.
Soraya had a child already before she met him. She was a year old, and Soraya wanted her to have her husband's name. The child was now ANYA MATSUI, and due to her young age, she wouldn't remember her short time in America. However, when she grew older, many stories were told about her father's time in America.
Anya looked up to Ryoto and took up a similar sport to his--kickboxing. It had their similarities and differences, but having a retired boxer as a father certainly helped. Anya was determined, and even with her father there to help her, she wanted to see what she could learn and do on her own.
The year is 1990, and she's 21 years old. Her debut match was a success, and she's now preparing for another match with a new kickboxing federation to climb up the ranks.
