Dearest Steven,
Is it wicked of me to tell you plainly that my heart may well have skipped a beat reading the contents of your correspondence this evening? I certainly was glad I waited to read it until I was in my quarters and not surrounded by other soldiers.
Yes, of course, I shall oblige and tell you all about my time in the 107th. Bootcamp was the most difficult few weeks of my life, but I received a Sergeant rank and am proud to be overseas fighting this war for those who cannot fight back themselves.
I have come to learn that every man is here for his own reason- and I cannot stress enough that I would be home if I were not such a patriot. I miss you, too.
Your Obliged and Affectionate Friend,
James
