Juliet Harrington"Nancy you're out of your mind if you think I'm babysitting again." Steve said annoyed while following Nancy upstairs to her room. I was pissed at her. I just wanted to finally be included in something.
"Okay, first of all, they're not babies anymore. And Max and your sister are in real danger. They need people around." Oh. Shocking. She actually thought of me.
"I know, but why does it always have to be us." He said annoyed and rubbing his temple turning around. Just then Robin walked in and immediately got all giddy. My, I loved this girl. "Oh! My God! You have a Tom Cruise poster!" Then she stopped and turned around to smirk at Nancy teasingly. "You have a Tom Cruise poster..."
Nancy was rummaging for whatever it was and she turned around to look at Robin. "That's...old." She said before turning back to the closet. Robin laughed and bent down to look at some random things. Nancy heard the rummaging and turned around. "Can you please not touch anything?" She asked my friend rather harshly. I glared at her before leaning on the wall and crossing my arms over my chest.
Steve seemed to not be able to find the right words since he was stuttering like crazy before finally speaking straight. "It's just, I can't do anything here Nance. Maybe I can be helpful with this asylum director dude. I don't know. I could turn on my...my charm." He said snapping his fingers.
I rolled my eyes and watched as Robin continued to discover new things. "No the kind of charm we need." She shook her head.
"Ouch."
"No. I just...look I did a little digging last night and it turns out this Dr. Hatch is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Harvard visiting scholar, okay? This is a lifelong student of the world and if we're gunna win him over, we're gonna have to convince him that we are too. That like him...we are true. Academic. Scholars." Nancy rambled still going theough her closet.
I heard soft, gentle music playing from a little something. I turned around and Robin had a giddy smile on her face. "Holy shit. There's a little ballerina in here." She whispered holding up the box. I looked at her and chuckled.
"Academic scholar? She's giving you an academic scholar vibes? Yeah." Steve said extending his hand at Robin before placing it on his head. How could he complain about being the babysitter? He looked like a mom with that pose. Robin scoffed at him and placed the box back.
"No, but..." Nancy held up a pink dress with small ruffles here and there. I always hated that dress. It looked so weird. "She will." She finished her sentence holding the dress up to Robin. That was definitely not her style.
Robin looked at it with an expression that was enough to show she didn't want to wear that. "Oh, please tell me that you're joking." Nancy sighed handing it over to her.
Robin changed into it and she immediately started complaining. Classic. They went off to whatever the hell they went to do and me and Steve went back down to the basement where the kids were.
I heard rummaging behind me where Max was. I assumed she was wrapping up the letters. I looked down at the paper about Victor Creel still trying to find out how this could help me and Max free ourselves from this curse.
However, the rest of the guys had their eyes glued onto Max. Weirdos.
"I know you guys are staring at me." She said once she noticed their gazes on her. The guys immediately looked away trying to seem like they were doing something other than staring at her.
"What, sorry?"
"Uh, you said you needed something?"
"Just hanging out."
I rolled my eyes at their stupidity and looked back down at the paper. But then Dustin rudely snatched it from my hand. I gave him the finger which earned a smack from Steve to my hand. I crossed my arms over my chest and sat back on the chair.
"How you think your eyes boring into the back of my head is protecting me from Vecna, I don't know." She got up off the chair and walked towards us with envelopes in her hand. The guys still avoided eye contact with her and Steve was stupidly throwing a ball up in the air and catching it.
I looked up at her. "You can look at me now." Max said from next to me. "Thank you, sorry." Dustin said along with Steve and Lucas who repeated 'sorry'
She sighed and looked at the envelopes in her hand before handing them to each of us with a "For you." I grabbed mine and looked at it. It had a 'Jules <3' on it. I might hand mine out after she does.
"Oh, and um...give these to Mike, El, and Will. If you can ever get a hold of them again." She said handing them to Lucas. I looked down at the envelope in my hand. Dustin started to open his and I was about to but then Max stopped us.
"What are you doing?! No, that's not for now. Don't open it now." Her voice got lower as she spoke i stead of when she first spoke to us. Yeah, this was definitely what I thought it was.
I placed the envlope on my lap and looked at Dustin who seemed confused. He nodded his head and stuttered a few words out before putting it back down. All three of the guys were confused on what was given to them. However, I knew because I did the same.
Me and Max have the same worry inside of us that just made us have to do it.
"I'm sorry, what is this?" Dustin asked holding the envelope back up. "It's um...it's a fail safe. For after. Y'know if things if they-if they don't work out." She said avoiding eye contact with everybody.
I didn't even know if I was going to be able to read mine. Which broke my heart.
"Wait, woah, Max. Things are gonna work out-" Lucas was brutally cut off my Max who snapped her head to look at him. "No! No, I don't need you to reassure me right now, and tell me that it's all gonna work out. Because people have been telling me that my entire life and it's almost never true."
She looked at all of us. "It's never true. I mean of course this asshole curses me. Should've seen that one coming."
We all got quiet and looked at her worriedly. I pursed my lips together and looked at the envelopes on the small coffee table and reached over to them. I looked at all the names.
Steve. Lucas. Dustin. Jonathan. Robin. Eddie. Max. Nancy. Eleven. Mike. El. Joyce.
