The bus ride back to the hotel flew by, Darla blasted music to shut out everything else,
mainly the shouting of the other girls, but also her own thoughts.
Iowa, the team she transferred from, she was going to play, tomorrow.
she knew it would just be a normal game, but the atmosphere was for sure gonna tear her apart.
she was gonna have too see her old coach, she didn't have a choice.
The coach who selected her to play for Iowa, until Darla broke her ankle.
The injury changed her, but it also changed the coaches perspective on her, apparently.
Her first year of college In Iowa.
Darla's world was falling apart, everything was going wrong, she's recently broke up with her ex boyfriend Tyler, who's been throwing stress over her head since, and then, not even a week later she snaps her ankle.
The injury made her realize a lot,
Darla was drowning in misery, the weight of her broken relationship and injury crushing down on her like a ton of bricks. Her once intense love, spirit and passion for the game had been stamped out, leaving her feeling numb and disillusioned.
She was finally cleared to play, during the second half of the season.
Everything would be better right? her ankle would be completely fine after zero activity for the last couple weeks.
She thought it would be fine, it wasn't.
All the girl needed was someone to be there for her, someone, anyone.
' it'll be okay'
' you'll heal. '
we're all the words she wanted to hear, but instead.
' your useless!'
' Darla Makinson has not been the same since her injury.'
' she should be off the team.'
' not a star player anymore.'
Those harsh words were sent all around, the first half of the season she was playing insanely well, a star-player.
Until the accident,
Her team made it to the final game of a huge tournament, Darla was just healing, told to ' take it easy. ' by doctors.
The game was an intense one, and her coach said and did things that Darla will never forget.
she didn't know if she was ready to face it again, after running away to UCONN.

She woke up too Azzi snoring loudly, the sound covered up the alarm blasting in the hotel room.
Darla slammed her fist over her phone, sending Azzi jolting awake as she turned over. The warm blanket slid off of her skin, leaving the cold air sending goosebumps over her body.
she grabbed the phone as she sat off the edge of the bed, her feet dangled above the cold floor as she yawned, sending tears to bunch as her eyes squished together, turning off the alarm she groaned, staring forward out the window, it was still dark.
Darla's gaze remained fixed out the window as she sat on the edge of the bed, her grogginess weighing her down like a heavy anchor. The darkness outside only added to her sense of melancholy, seeming to mirror the emptiness in her chest.
With a weary sigh, she forced herself up off the bed, her feet finally touching the cold floor as she shuffled towards the bathroom.
