After the Storm
After the intense face-off with The Shield on Raw, Chris and Logan Johnson were still riding the adrenaline high as they made their way back to the hotel. The sun had long set, leaving the city skyline aglow with twinkling lights, and the brothers walked through the lobby with the quiet confidence that came from being on top of their game. The tension from earlier had given way to a sense of calm, the kind that only comes after a storm.
As they stepped out of the elevator and into the hallway leading to their rooms, Chris’s phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, glancing at the screen. A text message from Nikki Bella.
"Hey Chris, we’re by the pool with Maryse. You and Logan should come join us. We could all use a little downtime after tonight. ;)"
Chris’s eyebrows raised slightly as he read the message. He glanced over at Logan, who was already a few steps ahead, heading toward their room.
“Hey, Logan,” Chris called out, his voice carrying a hint of something Logan couldn’t quite place. Logan turned, looking at his brother with a mix of curiosity and fatigue.
“What’s up?” Logan asked, his tone neutral as he stopped in the hallway.
Chris flashed him a grin, holding up his phone. “Nikki and Maryse are down by the pool. They want us to join them. What do you say?”
Logan’s expression remained unchanged for a moment, then he gave a small shrug. “Sure, why not? We’ve earned a break.”
Chris’s grin widened. “That’s the spirit. Let’s drop our stuff off and head down.”
The brothers quickly dropped their bags in their room, freshened up, and made their way to the hotel’s rooftop pool. The night air was cool and crisp, a welcome contrast to the heat of the ring earlier that evening. As they approached the pool area, the sound of water gently lapping against the edges of the pool mingled with soft music playing over the speakers.
The pool itself was a serene oasis, illuminated by soft blue lights that reflected off the water’s surface. A few scattered lounge chairs were occupied by other hotel guests, but the area was mostly quiet, providing a perfect setting for unwinding after a long day.
Nikki Bella and Maryse were already there, lounging by the water in their swimsuits. Nikki, with her signature red lipstick and confident demeanor, sat with her legs dipped into the pool, her long dark hair cascading down her back. Maryse, elegant and poised as ever, was reclining on a chaise longue, her blonde hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. As soon as they spotted Chris and Logan, Nikki’s face lit up with a smile. “Hey, boys! Glad you could make it.”
Chris, ever the charmer, returned her smile with one of his own. “How could we say no to an invitation like that?”
Logan, who was usually more reserved in social settings, offered a polite nod to both women as he approached. He wasn’t one for small talk, but he respected Nikki and Maryse, both as competitors and as people who knew how to handle themselves in the often chaotic world of WWE.
Maryse glanced at Logan with a playful smirk. “Quiet as always, Logan. You need to loosen up a bit. Tonight’s about relaxing, not strategizing.”
Logan allowed a rare smile to tug at the corner of his mouth. “I’ll try to keep that in mind.”
Chris wasted no time, sitting down next to Nikki and letting his feet dangle in the water. “So, what’s the plan? Just hanging out, or did you two have something more exciting in mind?”
Nikki leaned back on her hands, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Well, we were just talking about your little encounter with The Shield earlier. Seems like you two are in for quite a ride leading up to Night of Champions.”
Maryse chimed in, her voice laced with curiosity. “How are you feeling about it? Facing The Shield is no small task.”
Chris shrugged, his tone casual but confident. “We’re ready. The Shield thinks they’re the new big thing, but they’re just another challenge we’re going to overcome. They don’t have what we have.”
Nikki raised an eyebrow. “And what’s that?”
“Each other,” Logan said, his voice calm but firm. “No matter what they bring, they’re not going to break the bond we have. That’s our strength.”
Nikki smiled, clearly impressed. “You two are definitely a force to be reckoned with. But you know, it’s not all about what happens in the ring. Sometimes, you need to take a step back and enjoy the moment.”
Chris gave her a sideways glance, catching the meaning behind her words. “You’re right. We don’t always get a chance to relax.”
Maryse stretched out her arms, basking in the cool night air. “Exactly. So why don’t we make the most of tonight? No wrestling, no strategy, just... fun.”
Logan, who had been standing by the edge of the pool, finally let out a small laugh. “You know what? I think that sounds like a good idea.”
With that, the tension that had been lingering since their confrontation with The Shield began to dissipate. Chris and Logan allowed themselves to ease into the moment, appreciating the rare chance to unwind. Chris chatted with Nikki, their conversation flowing easily, while Logan found himself relaxing in Maryse’s company, the two exchanging thoughts on everything from life on the road to the challenges of being in the spotlight.
As the night wore on, the four of them laughed, talked, and let the world of WWE fade into the background. The cool breeze, the soft glow of the pool lights, and the easy company made for a perfect escape from the intensity of their everyday lives.
But even as they enjoyed the night, the looming challenge of The Shield was never far from their minds. They knew that their bond as brothers — both inside and outside the ring — would be put to the test in the weeks to come. But tonight, they allowed themselves a brief moment of peace, knowing that soon enough, the fight would begin again.
And when it did, Chris and Logan would be ready, united as ever.
