ALMOST A YEAR LATER

While practicing my vows in my head, I stared in the mirror and tucked my shirt into my pants. I glanced down at my watch and still had 53 minutes until my wedding ceremony began. A gentle knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts and I looked towards it.

Demetri headed over to the door, peeking out. "Yeah?"

"I want to give Kassauni something,"
I heard Rosalia say.

My attention shifted towards the door as I buttoned my pants. I picked up my suit jacket and shrugged it on.

"Gimme make me give him," He told her.

"Just let me give it to him. I'm not looking," She said and I walked over to the door, pushing Demetri aside.

"Weh yah gimme?" I asked from behind the door.

"I wanted to give you the paper with my vows. You can read it and keep it until we are ready to say our vows," She said and I smiled, reaching my hand through the slightly ajar door.

A sigh of relief escaped my lips when her hand touched mine. "Are you nervous?"

"Yes, I'm nervous but I am ready. We got married before and we did okay," She muttered and I chuckled.

"The vows make you nervous? Or the crowd?" I asked.

"Both maybe. Also, my dress is very long and I don't want to trip over it. I'd be so embarrassed, and I want you to tell me what you think of my vows. They're realistic and very long," She said, laughing nervously.

"Mama, we're good. I didn't want to read them because I was to be surprised. Take deep breaths and focus on walking. Everything else will play out perfectly," I assured her.

"I'm trusting you and God. Now, put this in your jacket please," She said, putting the paper in my hand.

I took it and slipped it in my pocket. A few seconds went by and we were still standing at the door. I could feel her presence there and then she sighed. After caressing her hand, she told me she was leaving and I shut the door.

"And yuh seh mi a simp," Demetri commented and I smiled, shamelessly.

Mi nuh care.

She's happy, I'm happy and we're both happy together. That's all that matters right now and if I have to be a simp, I'll be that. No one will treat my wife better than me or love her more.

No one. At all.

1:30 p.m.

As I stood at the end of the aisle, I waited a bit impatiently since I'd been standing there for about two minutes. Not very long but still. I watched as Malika quickly made her way towards Rosalia’s mother and handed her something before going back.

"Bredda, relax." Demetri chuckled and I looked at him.

"Wah?" I furrowed my brows.

"Relax yuh face, dawg. She soon fawud," He told me.

Exhaling, I realized I was a bit tense. I relaxed my shoulder and kept my expression pleasant. The soft music started playing and I smiled to myself. Jardani was the first to walk down the aisle followed by Alexis, Dante, and Henrique.

A few seconds went by before the bridesmaids followed wearing dusty blue gowns. Geneva was the first followed by Breanna, Octavia, and then Journee. Rosalia and I both agreed that since Simone is my ex, she shouldn't be a bridesmaid. She was fine with it and Simone didn't mind.
