I glance over at John, both of us still draped in our red graduation gowns. The weight of the moment feeling heavy between us.

"Do you really have to move to Austin?" I ask, absentmindedly picking at my nails, my gaze dropping to the floor. "What's so special about that place?"

He shifts in his seat, uncrossing his legs and leaning back against the couch. "I'm done with New York," he says with a sigh. "I want my streaming career to take off. Moving could be part of the bit, help build my online persona."

I bite my lip, my heart sinking at the words I didn't want to hear. "And you're just expecting me to get over you, just like that?"

He shrugs, his eyes drifting away. "Yeah. Pretty much."

I blink, stunned by the bluntness of his response. "Wow... Okay then, John." I push myself off the leather sofa, now standing as he continues to sit. His gaze finds me again, softer now than before. "I don't know what you expected. I can't handle long distance. And if people find out about you, they'll pick you apart every day. I don't want that life for you, Gi."

"You don't get to choose my life!" I bite back, my throat feeling tight at the rejection from him. "Nobody even knows what you look like! They don't know your real name, how would they even find me?"

"You don't understand. They will find out my name. They will find out what I look like. People are invasive and will do anything in their power to be weird towards me, my friends, and my family."

I scoff, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. "So this is really it, huh? No more calls? No more texts? No more checking in? Just... nothing?" I search his face for any sign of hesitation. Something that would reach out and want me to beg him to stay. His face displays nothing, making my heart sink even further.

"I'll still think about you, Gi. I'll still think about us-"

"John, there is no 'us'. There never was 'us'. There was only The Idea of Us."

This is a fictional book written about fictional characters. I do not accept copies, translations, merch, printing, anything associated to this book.

Photos at the top of each chapter resembles the POV in which it is written in. Example: At the beginning of this chapter, Georgia was at the top... meaning it was written in her POV.

I hope you enjoy the book. Feel free to vote, comment, and follow for updates.
