Chapter 1: Now Or Never

"Ladies and gentlemen, we will arrive in Unova in a few minutes. We recommend that you gather all your belongings and prepare for arrival." The ship's captain announced through the speakers.

May was brushing her hair while looking in the mirror, "I know I should be packing right now, but a girl's hair comes first, right?" The brunette winked at the mirror.

Suddenly, the door slammed open. Ash entered with Pikachu, "May, come to the deck quick. You have to see this!" The boy left as fast as he appeared.

The slam startled May, making her almost drop the brush. When she regained her composure, she saw the pair take off before she could say anything. The brunette placed her hands on her hip, "Ash, always in a hurry."

May sighed and ran out of the room; she went to the ship deck, where she found Ash and Pikachu overlooking a piece of land just ahead of them. Ash waved to her.

"Look, May. It's Unova!" May stood beside her boyfriend as they gazed at the new region. The coordinator saw various unfamiliar Pokémon swimming and flying by the ship.

May spotted a Pokémon that looked like Luvdisc swimming in the water. It was heart-shaped but with fins. She also saw a school of pink and blue round-headed Pokémon with crown-like tufts. Ash and Pikachu spotted a school of green Carvanha-esque fish. The trio looked up and saw a flock of blue duck-looking Pokémon flying alongside a group of larger swan-like birds.

Ash, May, and Pikachu were amazed by the sight. They could already tell that this adventure would be an exciting one. Ash turned his eyes to May, "The start of our new journey. You ready?"

"Ready when you are," the brunette sapphire eyes caught his eyes and smiled.

Pikachu was the only one who noticed a dark cloud looming on the horizon. The mouse stared at the cloud with confusion, wondering what that was.

Behind the trio stood three individuals dressed in black coats and black hats. Their identities remained hidden under their sunglasses. One was a woman with long, red hair and cherry lips. The other was a man with short, purple hair. The third person was too short to be human with a cat-like appearance. The shady trio stared at the young couple and Pikachu from a distance. "Looks like the twerp is dating the Hoenn twerpette," Meowth observed.

"I always thought he would date the original twerpette," James countered.

"Well, that doesn't matter to us. We're here because the boss personally assigned us with a mission, so we can't afford to blow it," Jessie said in a cold voice, trying to get her teammates to focus on the task at hand.

"Hey Jess, don't cha think it'd be a great idea if we tried to capture Pikachu anyway? Think about it," Meowth suggested.

James became interested, "I think Meowth is on to something. Team Rocket's goal is to capture rare and powerful Pokémon. Capturing Pikachu wouldn't hurt."

Jessie looked at them and then at Pikachu. The red-haired woman sighed, "I don't see why not. Pikachu would be a valuable asset."

"That's the spirit," the cat Pokémon smirked. The Team Rocket trio stared at the yellow mouse, who remained unaware of his enemies as he stood on the ship rail.

Ash, Pikachu, and May were the last to disembark the ship. The trio looked around when they set foot in Unova. "Hey Ash, Professor Juniper is supposed to pick us up, right?" May asked her boyfriend.
