The fall-out from Bishop's 'quickie' with Gibson is SIGNIFICANT: a pregnancy from which Liam Gibson is born, and Carina - her wife - can't bear the sight of the baby boy, whose strong resemblance to his father is VERY STRONG, indeed, resulting in Carina filing for divorce as the combination of the daily reminders of seeing the evidence of Maya's infidelity, the cheating itself, and the latter's refusal to face the truth about Lane Bishop's mistreatment push the fiery Italian OBGYN to seek an end to her marriage(nothing has been finalized).Infidelity, break up, a resultant pregnancy, a divorce filing, medium to heavy angst, and DIANE (finger-crossed!) to the rescue!...
Still very much in love with her wife, Maya is at wit's end on how to move on past the divorce...if it does in fact go through. The contact between them has been stiff and cold, even during arbitration. She had hope that the marriage can still be salvaged, though a major sticking point is custody of Baby Liam (fathered by Jack Gibson during her (Maya's) one-night stand with her co-worker. Despite Carina's request that either her wife or Jack transfer out, the blonde LT was
resistant, insisting that her hunky colleague was no further threat to them, which does little to appease the lovely Italian.Carina has difficulty bonding with the baby, despite her desire to expand their family as infidelity is hardly what she has in mind...add to that the reality that Liam strongly resembles his father, which increases the tension between wife and wife. At a certain point, the fiery Italian OBGYN packs her bags and leaves their shared condo, filing for divorce two weeks after careful thought:

The request to end their marriage shakes Bishop so much that she schedules a session with Daine Bishop. It's clear to the therapist that Maya hopes that the marriage can be saved and that there will be a reconciliation with Carina.
"We have been unable to avoid tabloid news about 'fairy tale' marriages that end unexpectedly: 'Brangelina', 'TomKat', and others that the public fully expected to last. When they don't, some in society experience a 'let-down' of sorts; I say that to illustrate this particular point," Diane says: the idea of rekindling an old flame can be an extremely romantic notion; what many don't realize that taking that step has unique challenges -more so when significant time has elapsed between the breakup and the attempt at reconciliation. "I can best describe it as risk/reward: familiarity and shared memories can be a strong foundation, just as unresolved conflict can undermine the process," Diane finishes, sitting back in her chair.
"I hear you," Maya comments. I...I just...losing her and Liam will break me. You know that I did;t speak with my father and I have very little contact with my mother since she and he got back together during COVID...I don't blame her; he's always kept her under his bootheel since my brother and I were little."
Diane asks "What about Mason? Have you seen him; spoken with him?"
"I-I...no, I haven't," Bishop admits, ashamed. "So much has been going on, and...after Dixon and his thugs pushed the unhoused encampments to South Park and Southeast Seattle we lost track of one another. SO...It's just me, now I guess: Andy's married and busy with her own family and career - the same with Vic. Warren never has hung out with us anyway, and Montgomery and Probie are wrapped up in each other...if this divorce is finalized, Diane...I can't survive."
"At this point, it's a filing Maya...I have filed for divorce TWICE during my 'smoke jumper' days and we are going strong nearly 16 years later. Even Herrera served Sullivan in front of both A and B shifts and their relationship survived. Until a Superior Court judge signs off nothing is finalized - try to keep that in mind."
"Thank you. Talking helped a lot."
