The sky was painted in the soft hues of twilight as Earn fluttered down from the heavens, her wings glimmering with a gentle, golden light. She landed gracefully on the edge of a rooftop, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the bustling city below. A whisper of a sigh escaped her lips. Her mission was straightforward - to guide and protect a particular stubborn human soul from the clutches of darkness. Yet, there was one complication: that darkness had a name.
"Fahlada."
Earn's voice was like a melody carried by the wind, yet it held a note of irritation as she called out. A shadow flickered nearby, curling into the form of a woman lounging lazily on the rooftop's ledge. Fahlada, with her dark curls cascading down her back and eyes glinting with mischief, stretched like a cat basking in the sun.
"Earn, darling," Fahlada purred, her voice dripping with playful malice. "So nice of you to drop by. And here I thought you might actually be busy with something... angelic."
Earn crossed her arms, her wings twitching with restrained annoyance. "You know why I'm here, Fahlada. This human is under my protection."
"Oh, your protection, is it?" Fahlada smirked, her fangs barely visible as she flashed a grin. "I seem to recall that this human has been making some very... questionable decisions lately. Decisions that might suggest they're leaning towards my side."
Earn's eyes flashed with determination. "Only because you've been whispering in their ear! It's not a fair fight if you're constantly tempting them with - what was it last time? Oh yes, a free pizza delivery when they were supposed to be fasting."
Fahlada chuckled, the sound rich and dark, like velvet soaked in sin. "What can I say? Everyone loves a good deal. Besides, humans are so delightfully easy to sway when there's food involved. And admit it, that pizza was heavenly."
I refused to acknowledge anything you do as heavenly," Earn retorted, her tone sharp, but her lips threatened to twitch into a smile. "But if you think a few snacks will win this battle, you're sorely mistaken."
Fahlada slipped off the ledge, sauntering over to Earn with a glint of mischief in her eyes. "You know, this little competition of ours could be so much more... fun if you'd just loosen up a bit. Why don't we make a bet?"
"A bet?" Earn raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "What do you have in mind?"
"Oh, nothing serious," Fahlada said, waving a hand dismissively. "Just a little bet on who our dear human will choose next time they're at the crossroads. If they pick your path, I'll back off - temporarily. But if they choose mine... you'll have to go on a date with me."
Earn's wings flared in surprise. "A date? Why on earth would I agree to that?"
Fahlada leaned in, her voice a low whisper. "Because you're curious. Admit it. Earn. You've always wondered what it would be like to cross over the dark side... even if it's just for one evening."
Earn felt a flush creep up her neck, quickly concealed by a huff of indignation. "You're insufferable."
"And you're adorable when you're flustered," Fahlada teased, her grin widening. "So, what do you say? Are you in?"
Earn hesitated, her heart fluttering with a mix of apprehension and excitement. She was an angel, bound by duty and the light, but there was something undeniably alluring about Fahlada's boldness. Perhaps a small wager wouldn't hurt. After all, it wasn't like she would lose.
"Fine," Earn said, her tone firm despite the uncertainty swirling in her chest. "But don't think for a second that I'll go easy on you."
"Wpuldn't dream of it, darling," Fahlada said with a wink, stepping back to give Earn space. "Now, let's see whose side our little human takes... and may the best guardian win."
