Chapter 7

Emily's pov

I knock on Scarletts door and she answers quickly "hey!" She smiles leaning against the door frame "hi" I smile back "would you like to come in?' "that's alright, I don't want to interrupt. I just came to say bye, I went to mom's for dinner so I thought I'd pop in on my way past" "thank you, I appreciate it". Scarlett slides her sliders on and slowly pulls the door behind her as she steps outside "Rose is eating dinner" she tells me and I watch as she slides her hands into her jean pockets "sorry, did I come at a bad time?" She rubs her lips together and shakes her head "nope". She walks towards me and unbuttons my jacket "you need a bulletproof vest under here" I shrug "I think I'll be okay" she buttons it back up and intertwines her hands in mine "come home, I love you" "love you too" I kiss her lips and play with a strand of her hair that's by her ears. She pulls away and cups my face "please" I nod "got it ma'am, come home in one piece" she smiles softly on the verge of tears "and phone me when you can" I nod and smile looking behind her at the door slowly moving. Rose is standing there with a slice of pizza in her hands "Hi. Is that nice?" Scarlett moves to the side as I ask the question, Rose nods and walks over to her mom. Scarlett picks her up and holds her on her hip "what are you doing outside?' Rose whispers something in her ear that I can't quite make out.

Scarlett smiles and looks at me "Rose is wondering if you would join us for dinner. But only if your not busy of course" I move my head to the side just like Lizzie does and nod "I'd love to but only if there's enough" "of course there is. Come inside". Scarlett welcomes me into her house and puts her daughter on the floor "Emily this way" she holds my hand and I follow her into the kitchen. I look behind me and Scarlett is smiling of course "you sit here" Rose taps a chair and sits in the one next to it "I can sit here? Where does your mommy sit?' Rose points to the chair across from her making me nod "oh okay, I'll sit here then". I sit on the chair and Scarlett puts a plate Infront of me "thanks" I smile and she smiles back. This reminds me of being a kid again.

"I like your outfit" Rose says and I smile at her "you do? It's actually my work clothes" "do you work with mommy?' I shake my head and smile "I don't but I save people like she does" "and kill bad guys?" My smiles fades slowly. Scarlett puts a slice of pizza on Roses plate to distract her "yay!" She squeal and picks it up, I look at Scarlett who winks making me smile again. God, I love her so much. Her blonde hair flies in the air as she turns around "where's your pizza?' I look at Rose next to me, her heads tilted to the side in confusion "mm I think your mommy's getting me some". Just then, Scarlett puts a pizza on the table "there we go" and then another a couple seconds later. She sits opposite Rose and we all take a slice and put it on our plates with some salad  "this looks really nice, thank you' Scarlett laughs "Em this isn't nice dinner. It's pizza from the fridge and a quick salad. I can make you something much nicer when you come home" I smile "I'll need it, the food we get is horrible".

The three of us are the pizza and ice-cream Scarlett got out as a desert for Rose because she requested it. "Em can I talk to you?" I look at Scarlett who's loading the dishwasher and nod "yeah" I get up from watching Rose colour her book and follow Scarlett down the hall. "Emilyyy" Rose whines "she's be back in a second" Scarlett tells her. She stops Infront of the white wall so I stop too "I need to talk to you too" I tell her truthfully, Scarlett nods with a small smile "you can go first" "no you go first" we both laugh "oh fine, I'll go first" I say feeling my hands begin to shake "you know I love you and how beautiful you are" Scarletts cheeks pinken as she blushes "I think if this gets too...much then we should stop" he smiles fades quickly and she shakes her head "Em n-" "Scarlett please, just listen. I go away for more than five months of the year which is a long time without seeing eachother and what if something happens to me. If Rose gets too attached to me and something happens, what she going to do? It's not fair on either of you and I just want you to be happy and safe" Scarlett moves closer and holds my hands "I am happy, I'm happy with you. You can write me letters and phone me...I don't want this to end Em" I watch as her eyes slowly fill with tears "I don't either. Im just worried about you and Rose if something happens. I'm already worried about my family, how my mom would cope and Lizzie without me. I really cant see Rose or you either" I wipe her tears with my thumbs "Em I'll stop it if I see her getting too attached but I'm fine. If we break up then I've already lost you, I've told that before. I love you" she presses her lips against mine and I grab onto her jumper as she pushes me against a wall. I open my eyes and I'm met with her emerald orbs centermeters away from me. A light out of the corner of my eye catches my attention and I look out the corner of my eye. I push Scarlett away quickly and rub my face "Em wha-" I point to the kitchen door where Rose is sitting with a kids camera.

Scarletts pov
"Oi! What are you doing?" I ask my four year old who just giggles "you kissed Emily" a small smile grows on my lips "is that okay?" Rose nods and stands up "don't tell anyone though, it's a secret" "okay!" I smile and feel Ems hands brush against mine "can I have that camera please" Rose leaves it on the ground and I turn around to face Em. "I should go" I shake my head smiling "no you shouldn't. Rose doesn't mind" she licks her lips and rubs my cheek "what did you want to tell me?" I hold her muscly arm "just that you need to write to me everyday and come back in one piece. Preferably with no bruises or anything worse". I watch as she smiles widely "I can't promise anything but I'll try" I nod bitting my lip "well that's all you can do". She leans her forehead against mine and we start into each others eyes "I'll be back before you know it. I promise" "I don't think you will be, it will feel longer" her cheeks puff up as she smiles.

I walk into the kitchen and Rose turns around "Emily" I smile and tilt my head to the side "what are you drawing now?' I ask feeling Scarlett play with my long blonde hair "a picture of you fighting the bad guys" she holds it up to show me "woah, that's so good. I look like your mommy" Rose giggles and looks behind me at Scarlett "are you going to fight the bad guys now?' I nod "I am" she smiles and holds the paper out "this is yours" I take it from her and look at it with a smile "thank you so much. I'll put it in my bedroom and everytime I look at it I'll remember you" she smiles and slides off the chair towards me. Her arms wrap around my neck and her head rests on my shoulder, taken back I stare at the chair but put my arms around her gently realising what she did. I let go when she lets go and puts her hand to her head "goodbye Emily" she salutes me making me laugh. I stands up and salute her back "goodbye piccolo Marino" she frowns "what does that mean?" "It's Italian for little marine. Your mommy will tell you what it means" I feel Scarletts hand on my back and I know it's time to go. I turn around and smile "Im getting distracted. I need to go to the base" she nods with a soft smile "I don't know. I'll show you out". I follow her to the front door and put on my boots, Scarlett puts her arms around my shoulders and nods "you can't go unless you promise me five things" I smile and raise my eyebrow "I might have to fight you to let me go then. What are these things?" I ask curiously "write to me, phone me, don't die, don't get injured and don't ignore my calls" I stare into her eyes "I'll try and do all those things, I promise but being a lieutenant is very busy" "I know I just don't want to worry about you all the time" I peck her lips "you won't, I promise. When I come back I'll make it up to you, I promise" she sighs softly "I know you will. I love you so much" "I love you so much too". She rubs her nose against mine "I feel like your in the wrong industry Em" I smile and open my eyes "maybe" she kisses me one last time until I open the door and walk out to my car. I get in the driver's seat and look over at the door one last time at Scarlett waving before driving down the drive.

Flashback
"Baby look at me" I look up pulling away from his chest, he holds my face gently between his hands and stares at me right in the eyes "we can try again when I come back"  I take a sharp breath in "it's not about that babe. I don't want you to go, I want you to be here with me. I love you" "I love you too Em Bear. I'll be back before you know it. Three months, that's all" I look up at the ceiling feeling his lips on my cheek "Mark I'm serious. I don't want something to happen to you this close to our wedding. We've already lost our baby, I can't loose you too"  he pulls me into him "your not going to loose me Em. I'll be back in three months and then we can focus on the wedding. I promise".
