They say opposites attract right?
So then who's the north to your south? Who's the black cat and who's the golden retriever? Who's the introvert, who's the extrovert?
To you the question seemed weird. Why would opposites attract? Weird, right?
And to think of all the compatibility tests you took online when you were younger, how did they score it? By similarities, or by differences?
Or maybe it was that those relationship tests were randomized and weren't actually accurate, giving you a "soulmates" score the first time and then maybe a "yikes" next. Sorry to crush your dreams, kids.
Anyways, that was your assignment in Psychology. Whether opposites attract or not.
Your job was to make a powerpoint presentation, blah, blah, blah. You just wanted to get this over and done with. High school gives you enough homework anyway.
"Another thing," your teacher added, "you will be paired against a partner. This means you are presenting to one other person explaining why you are right."
so basically a debate, you thought in your head.
As you started researching for your project, one of your friends came to take the seat next to you. You researched, occasionally talking to her and laughing.
You knew for sure that opposites didn't attract, especially based on the people you dated in the past. They had a lot in common with you. They were a little bit quiet, yet definitely louder when comfortable. Most of them had similar hobbies, and interests, too.
In fact, studies showed that people found more interest in those who shared similarities with them. Why would a loud extroverted person like a quiet, introverted person? Little did you know you would find that out soon.
In the midst of preparing for your little "debate", you couldn't help but feel a pair of eyes on you. Weird because when you looked up, the presence was gone.
Regardless, you were desperate to get this assignment done so you wouldn't have to do it later. As the bell rung to dismiss you, you got up and packed your things . As you were walking out with your friend, you definitely felt someone staring at you again.
You decided to play it off as something you just made up in your head.
The next day, you entered the Psychology room and sat down.
"Alright, today we will be starting the mini debates," your teacher announced, "I will now announce the partners."
You hoped it wouldn't be a weird kid or an annoying one.
"F/n and R/n," the teacher listed off, "Y/n and C/n"
C/n? Oh yeah, him. He definitely caught your eye due to his good looks, but you never talked to him before.
"You're Y/n, right? I'm C/n," he walked over and introduced himself. He sent you a friendly smile and you sent one right back.
As you opened your presentation, you thought about what to say. You didn't prepare beforehand so now you had to come up with words on the spot.
As you explained and presented your ideas, using studies to back it up, you felt proud when you finished. However, you couldn't help but notice C/n was looking at you the whole time, only looking down at your presentation once.
"Nice." he complimented you.
"Thanks,"
He opened his presentation, "While commonly thought to be a myth, opposites do attract at times,"
"Even though studies show this and studies show that, people in relationships show that being extremely compatible isn't always a good thing," he continued.
"Relationships thrive off of curiosity, that's how they grow, by getting to know each other better," C/n argued.
"Being opposites adds the spark to relationships, after all, who would want to date another person who's exactly the same as them, you'd get bored easily." he concluded.
"Yeah, but why would a shy person date a bold person? That's just asking for chaos," you butted in.
He smirked and walked up to you. He lifted your chin up with his hand to make you look directly into his eyes, which was only a few centimeters away since your faces were so close to each other.
"Are you saying you wouldn't date me?" he asked.
You felt your face heat up, yet you were so confused as to why. After all, you barely knew him, for all you could know he could be nothing like you.
But wait.
That was exactly his point.
He was proving that opposites could attract. He was being bold and you were being shy.
"Damn, you're smart, huh?" you chuckled. He laughed with you, pulling his face away.
"Yeah, I think I am," C/n proudly remarked, "Can you believe I pulled that out on the spot?"
"Whatever," you replied softly.
"Let's get to know each other so we can see if opposites really do attract," C/n said.
You laughed, "Is that your way of flirting?" and then you proceeded to cringe just to tease him.
"You suck," he laughed at your overexxagerated expression.
"That's not a no, so...." he looked at you with determined eyes.
"Yeah, I want to know you too," you smiled.
