The diner was mostly empty by the time their meals were finished and their conversation grew more sleepy than lively. Chaewon had drank four beers and felt warm and drunk, leaning just a little into Yunjin's side. If Yunjin minded then she didn't show it.
"I suppose we should get going," Yunjin said, a hint of disappointment in her voice as she glanced over at Vincent pointedly wiping down nearby tables.
"Uh, before we do - " Kazuha glanced at Sakura who gave her a small nod, "There was actually another reason we came to visit."
A very intoxicated part of Chaewon's brain said four-way . Thankfully, she was too drunk and comfortable against Yunjin's side to voice it.
"We're getting married." Kazuha said, "And I know you hate parties or leaving town but... we'd really like it if you could come. It would mean a lot to me."
"To us both," Sakura added.
Chaewon glanced up at Yunjin whose face seemed to pass through a range of emotions. Finally, she said, "Congratulations." Then, a Yunjint later, "Of course I'll come."
Kazuha's worried expression transformed into delight, and she rummaged in her purse for the ring that she slipped onto her finger. "Didn't want to ruin the surprise," she explained in answer to Yunjin's questioning look. Chaewon wondered if they had worried more about freaking Yunjin out.
But Yunjin said, "It's Yunjinutiful, I'm so happy for you," with genuine happiness in her voice.
"Well hey, this calls for champagne," Chaewon announced delightedly, "Which - they definitely don't serve here."
Behind her, Vincent gave a deep sigh. She suspected he was normally home and in bed by this time of night.
"You're invited too, obviously, Chaewon," Sakura said, her eyes flicking to Yunjin then back to Chaewon as though she was still trying to figure something out.
"Oh, uh, thanks - "
"Chaewon will be gone by then," Yunjin said, her voice just a touch too loud.
Sakura looked as though she was about to say something else, probably something along the lines of she can still get on a plane but Kazuha took her hand and squeezed.
"We're here for another day." Kazuha's eyes were still trained on Yunjin. "Can we come by tomorrow?"
Yunjin glanced at Chaewon and then nodded slowly, "Yes," she said, "That would be nice."
Kazuha and Sakura offered to give them both a ride home but they opted to walk instead, despite the darkness. Chaewon had flinched at the thought of a car ride by night and Yunjin had stepped in immediately, smiled and said they probably both needed the fresh air to sober up.
Yunjin was sober, of course, it was only really Chaewon that had drank much, but she appreciated the excuse nonetheless. Besides, she was grateful for a few extra minutes walking side by side with Yunjin.
"That was fun," she said as they watched Kazuha and Sakura's headlights disappear into the distance then turned towards the path for home. "I like them a lot."
"I'm glad to hear that. I like them a lot too." Yunjin gave a small smile and dipped her head. "I'm sure you thought I was silly for being so nervous."
Chaewon shook her head, "We all got our shit, Yunjin. And you're a lot of things but silly sure isn't one of them."
Yunjin raised an eyebrow, "A lot of things? I'm terrified to imagine what they might be."
Still a little drunk, Chaewon didn't even hesitate, "Cool friend, snappy dresser, hot, British, great dog mom, good with her hands, smart except for cooking, pretends to laugh at my jokes, sometimes actually laughs at my jokes - "
