*Gasp*
"...huh? Where.. am I—"
"The bots have gone rogue. They’re raiding cities—bunkers like this one aren’t safe either."
"W-what... Is happening"
Before I could begin to comprehend anything, the pale lady walked up and tore off tubes attached to me,
The bluster of fluids streaming out the tubes added with the flickering emergency alerts echoing across the room, it wasn't... something one could easily handle.
[Bio-support detachment detected. Fluid loss detected. Isolating damaged resource lines...]
As the tubes were torn away, a surge of fluids spilled out, splattering onto the floor. The system’s emergency protocols kicked in, shutting down the leaking lines. My heart pounded, the room spinning around me... What is happening?
[--------]
What... What was that—why does my mind... Feel clearer?
"A group of Vyrmalks are headed here... Most of the pods in here have been sabotaged.. monsters, how could they kill their fellow humans.." the pale lady mumbled with a very irritated expression as she helped me off the pod.
As I came to be, the pale white lady, entirely augmented seemed familiar
"Wait wait, law..fey.. is that.. you? what are you talking about..?"
".. sorry, I'm panicking a little. I'll talk about it on the way, let's go." She said taking a deep breath, ignoring my question.
[Room E3 opening]
As the voice echoed, the doors rumbled. She grabbed me by the wrist and with the crisps of the crackling decayed wires, we started running. The bleak air filling my nostrils, our footsteps that were the only sounds I could hear, where even am I..
With the clattering of our.. metallic legs, we had passed the section containing cyro-pods. Beyond this point however, The bunker showed heavy signs of infiltration, lawfey mentioned that the pods stored were destroyed, why was mine left alone..?
As the crumbling concrete halls seemed endless, the cracks led sun rays in.. which felt.. lifeless.. Ashes fell in the bunker.
"You're doing well right? Check up on your augus. We'll need to jump and hide a lot."
"How do I activate mods again.. I'm going through an amnesia session after being forcefully woken up."
I was still trembling a little, but adjusting accordingly as time passed
"Right, that happens. Just like pushing yourself further than your limit. It should be easy, your brain must've already adjusted."
"right.."
The stained walls that were ridiculed by marks and symbols seemed interesting. It appears that survivors and drifters were frequent in the bunker.
My senses were becoming clearer.. the mods on me were too apparent however,
I wonder how we'll hide it.. I reckon society despairs upon us."Henry, remember. We're about to exit the bunker, everything after this point will be hellish."
"What has been happening around here.. lawfey"
""It's complicated... Corporation greed, societies that started relying on ai systems that essentially became civilization's backbone. But, the advancements in ai that brought it closer to an complete being... It all started from that.. and you know what...?"
"The Systems were still simply following instructions... The people at the top started a purge.. a purge of every human, for what you ask?... For their entertainment.." lawfey mumbled with a twisted smile, awfully irritated with an expression of disbelief..
...
"Then, the systems turned against them. Using the resources provided by those psychopaths to mass produce bots, brainwash augmented soldiers and people alike. A few of us, who relied on older versions and those without brain implants were left."
"...right sorry, I'm saying too much without giving you time to adjust properly... Those bots—referred to as "Vyrmalks" have been going around destroying cites.. with the intention to wipe out humanity. Some governments are still fighting however, the world is in the middle of collapsing."
...
The Systems turned rogued...? That literally means the entire world is doomed..
The world has fallen into ruin… and now I’m a part of it. But why? Why wake me up— w-what purpose could I possibly serve in a world that’s already dead and dying..? Why include... Me in this mess..
With the dystopia the world has become, what remains of value... A heart beat that's very much artificial, the vision that is way past a human's capacity... Am I.. even supposed to be a human anymore.[--------]
..ah, what is this.. auto-regulators? Goddamnit..
"...So I'm guessing we're gonna party up with them?"
...
"No. Internal conflicts are inhibiting them from remaining quiet, most of them are humans anyways.. it wouldn't be surprising if one of ou—their camps already got raided since my leaving."
"Right, low breeds as they used to call them, typical. How shall we proceed then?"
"We’ll drift for a while,” Lawfey said, her voice tinged with resignation.
“But out there… it’s not the world you remember, Henry. It’s something far worse. We’ll find our kind—if they haven’t found us first."
With those words, I bore a harsh expectation. The light—the exit is right in front of us, just how much has changed in this... Nightmare of mine.
P.s his conflicting words are due to his amnesia; memories coming back to him in bits and his brain trying to cope with the situation, there is a system implanted in his brain that assists regulation of his body.
