Fu Weilun looked out at the darkening sky and then at Lu Jianguo waiting at the door. He asked, puzzled, "Lu, why are you here so late? Is there something urgent?"
Lu Jianguo shook the bottle of alcohol he was holding. "Just thought we could have a drink together..."
Even though Fu Weilun wasn't in the mood for drinking, he couldn't just send Lu Jianguo away now that he was at the door. He stepped aside to let him in.
Once inside, Lu Jianguo opened the bottle and took out some peanuts from his bag, placing them on the table. He then looked at Fu Weilun and said, "Secretary Fu, get us two glasses."
Seeing that Lu Jianguo was prepared for a long chat, Fu Weilun didn't say much. He turned around, fetched two glasses from the tea table, and also brought out some marinated meat from home to accompany the drinks.
Lu Jianguo tried a piece of meat and was immediately impressed. "This meat is delicious, Secretary. Where did you get it?"
With this tasty meat as a side dish, he was sure he'd be able to drink a bit more tonight.
Fu Weilun brought over two pairs of chopsticks and sat down opposite Lu Jianguo. "It's homemade wild boar meat sent from home."
Lu Jianguo took another piece of meat and nodded repeatedly. "Mmm, it's really good. Your family has excellent skills."
Fu Weilun poured two glasses of alcohol, pushing one toward Lu Jianguo. "Here, let's toast to today's smooth resolution."
Lu Jianguo raised his glass, clinked it with Fu Weilun's, and drank it all in one go. Fu Weilun did the same, and soon, both of them were visibly intoxicated.
Fu Weilun, with red-tinted eyes, leaned back on the sofa, seemingly lost in thought.
Lu Jianguo, his gaze flickering, glanced over at Fu Weilun and finished his drink. "Brother Fu, you have no idea how much I admire your kids. My two troublemakers... hic... can't compare to yours at all."
He chuckled and filled Fu Weilun's glass again. "Your niece, how old is she now?"
Fu Weilun opened his eyes and glanced at him. "She's thirteen. Why?"
Lu Jianguo casually asked, "She's so outstanding, her parents must be extraordinary people, right?"
Fu Weilun's eyes darkened as he gave Lu Jianguo a cold look. "Lu, if you have something to say, just say it directly."
Lu Jianguo, feeling a bit uneasy, stood up and clinked his glass with Fu Weilun's. He took a small sip and said, "This girl looks like someone I know."
Fu Weilun's expression turned cold. "Who is this person?"
Lu Jianguo replied, "Three years ago, during the Northwest Military Region's major competition, I saw the division commander reporting to someone, but I didn't catch who it was. I just stole a glance at that person's appearance and left. But, anyone who is accompanied by the division commander and the military chief can't be ordinary."
Fu Weilun pondered for a moment, his lips slightly moving as he said, "High-ranking... influential..."
His voice was as cold as ice.
Suddenly, he sneered, stood up, and walked to the window, looking out at the darkening sky. He wondered to himself, "Does the family know who that person is? How did Sister Jing Shu get to know someone like that..."
Since the family had always said she lost her father, it meant that person must have wronged Jing Shu. So, he had no intention of letting Fu Xiao recognize him.
