After getting out from the poor man's house, I stood outside for quite some time before the man slowly came out and closed the door silently behind him. As I watched him do that, he then quickly approached me and kneeled in front of me again, this time on the dilapidated wooden floor.

"...thank you. For giving both of us a large amount of water... for saving my beloved wife and our child..."

"......I did not act for you to praise me with gratitude."

The man looked a bit shocked and confused, but he slowly stood back up while making a curt nod.

Although I knew I had to act a bit cold to make sure the man did not try to approach and exploit me again, it still made me feel a bit hurt to act cruelly like this.

"...now, can you tell me what is happening?"

"It will be a bit long. Is that okay?"

"That won't be a problem." I glanced at the clock which showed 10:37 P.M. in the corner of my eyes. "...I have quite a lot of time."

The man nodded before he repositioned himself to a sitting position. I also sat down across from him and waited for him to speak.

In response, he talked about the monsters that had wreaked havoc upon the town's infrastructure, destroying the vital waterway system for the people. This unexpected destruction and a lack of rain in the region had disastrously resulted in the complete dehydration of the town's main water reservoir, which was already in a precarious situation even before the destruction.

As I heard his explanation, I noticed that it was not that different from the explanation given by Terian... which made me feel a bit iffy.

"...do you know what the monster is?"

"...I... did not hear anything about it." The man shook his head before continuing. "It was only after most of the water well had dried up that people began to complain and the Mayor of Dune told everyone about the destruction of the waterway."

"And it was never fixed?"

"I heard there was an attempt, but it failed miserably due to a monster's ambush on the way."

"...just an attempt?"

"...every single engineer who had worked on the waterway had either died of old age or from the monster's attacks, so..."

In other words, even if another assault group was made to deter the monsters, it would not solve the water problem if nobody was able to construct the waterway.

"...the mayor is still enlisting people that are willing to help. She even cracked open her personal savings to solve this issue." The man stopped to heave a sigh before continuing with a somber expression. "...but not only is the problem not solved, it even got worse."

"Worse... how?"

"The population of monsters around Dune had increased, locking the people inside. While we are still protected within Dune, we are basically isolated here."

"...so you can't call other people or other Town for help."

If what this man and Terian had said to me were true, then the situation might be a lot worse than just a simple broken waterway.

Even so, there was this weird, nagging feeling, as if something was missing from the explanation.
