A Song in the Shadows
It was too dark and cold; he could barely see anything around him. The place was so quiet that he could hear his own heartbeat. Slowly, a light appeared-dim and distant. As he stared at it, he realized it was moving towards him. When he looked closer, he saw a pair of beautiful eyes in that light, eyes that seemed full of life.
They turned towards him, and for a second, he was frozen-his mind completely blank. He could hear his heart whispering, "Hey, don't look at her, you might die, bruh." But part of him wished he could die for those eyes, eyes with a sharp gaze that felt like they could make his head explode.
Out of nowhere, a song started playing-it was an Ilayaraja song, the words echoing in his mind:
"Oliyilae therivadhu dhevadhaiya
Uyirilae kalandhadhu nee illaya
Idhu nesama nesam illaya..."
Was it all real? He questioned himself, thinking maybe it was evil that had captured him. "Don't look at those eyes," he told himself, but God, he couldn't help it. He rubbed his eyes, trying to see her face, but it was hidden from him.
Slowly, she moved away, her gaze no longer on him. He tried to follow, taking a step towards her, and then-he fell out of his bed.
The first thing he did after that was try to draw those eyes. Even though he wasn't good at drawing, he managed to capture a glimpse of them in his diary by recalling every detail. As he sketched, a feeling crept over him, as if he had seen those eyes before, maybe in a dream or somewhere familiar.
He glanced at the clock-it was already 8:00, and his first class started at 9:00. He hurried to take a bath, humming the "Oliyilae" song, feeling as if he had just won a battle of a hundred, all by himself.
