From the moment Elliot walked into the squad room and noticed that Benson wasn't at her desk. The one he once shared with her before fin switched places with her . He noticed that Liv was talking with cragen about something other than a case . He had gotten a weird feeling when he saw her walk out of the squad room without even looking in his direction. He waited for her to come back for a good five minutes before he went to see what was up. She was sitting at her desk, just staring at the wall. "Hey, you want to go get some coffee?" He asked, and she looked at him and said no. He thought to himself she never says no , maybe she was told about Kathy . He'd been hiding the fact that he and Kathy had been having problems lately. He didn't want her or anyone else about his personal problems.she gets up and says why didn't you tell me ? He says we're partners and you know everything about me but it's my fault. You're supposed to trust me. "I do trust you," he said quickly. After he leaves the squad room, there's a text sent from El saying, Liv, I've screwed up, and I need you. Liv is out on a call whenever the text is sent but replies. She tells the squad it's an emergency and she's needing backup. She arrives at Elliot's place, finding it completely empty with him passed out on the floor from drinking. She's trying to get ahold of Kathy, but she's been blocked, so she tried on Elliot's phone and noticed messages between them. One saying you'd be a better father if you left the squad. Liv couldn't believe it, nor could she see him on the floor this. She begins to do everything she'd been taught to do in a situation like this. Elliot is finally getting back to a conscious state of mind. She's still trying to communicate with him, but he's getting emotional. She goes to comfort him, and he tells her about Kathy. where Liv then sits there with him, trying her best to understand where he's coming from. he then proceeded to stay. Kathy thinks me and you are having an affair. Which then Liv says to him, You have never crossed any lines, nor have I ever thought of it. Our friendship is built around our job, nothing more, and you are a perfect father. And if the job is getting in the way, leave for a bit and work on your family. I will always be here for you and your family. There's a call from Kathy, she said she'll be filling out the paperwork for the divorce. Elliot hangs up and goes to hug Liv. They stand there hugging, then their radios go off to meet up at the squad room. Liv tells him to clean up, and she'll take him. There driving back, and El reaches over to Liv's hand and holds it. He begins to say thank you, Liv, and I could've died if it wasn't for you. And I appreciate you for being there for me and my kids. I hope you feel the same way, even though I'm tied up with marriage .There, back at the squad, and they walk in at different times. Elliot is at his desk and is waiting for Liv. But then reminders she's in the other room. So he heads over to Cregan and asks if he and Liv can be table partners. He tells Cregan about the past few hours and thinks it'll be better to have Liv with him. So Cregan agrees only if she wants. El leaves his office and goes to get Liv. He tells Liv that Cregan said it's okay if shed like to sit across from him like old times. She says yes, and he carries her things. He's happy to have his partner back. Now they are able to communicate like old times without being awkward. After their shift is over, Liv invites him over to eat dinner and talk over his plans. He said yes, and they're going to be completely honest with each other. He tells her that he'll grow through the divorce only if kathy allows him to see the kids. Which shows he doesn't wanna leave the kids but it's the only option he's got.
