School. The hell hole for unpopular people like me. Where the popular rule the school and determine your social status. If they like you, your rank is high. If they don't, well you can figure that out.
I, myself, am not liked by them. Or so I think. They don't talk, look at, or even come near me. It's like I'm a disease. But I like it. I don't have to worry about what I look like, how others see me, or keeping my status up.
~*~*~*~
Beep beep beep
I groan as I roll over and shut my alarm off. I lay in bed for an extra minute before flinging the covers back and sitting up. I rub my eyes and let out a yawn. I stand up and walk into my bathroom. I start the shower and strip out of my pajamas. I brush through my hair to get the rats nests out before stepping into the warm spray. I shampoo, condition, and wash my body. I don't even bother to shave my legs, but I did shave my underarms.
I get out and wrap a towel around my body. Then, I exit the steam and walk back into my bedroom. I'm picking out my clothes when I hear a pounding on my window. I jump at the sudden sound, turning to see the culprit of the disturbance.
Ashton Irwin. My neighbor.
I walk over to the window, shyly closing the shades. Sure, we're neighbors, but we never really got to know each other. We were never friends like other neighbors were. We were just people who lived next to each other.
I finish getting ready. I put on my undergarments. Then I slip on a pair of light washed blue jeans and roll them up a bit. Next, I pull on a black blouse and some sandals. I brush my teeth, apply mascara and face powder, brush through my now dry hair and flip it up into a bun.
I grab my backpack and head downstairs.
"Good morning Mum."
"Good morning Catherine." She greets as she hands me a piece of toast. "Better get going. Don't want to be late." She kisses my cheek before I head out.
I walk done my front path and to the bus stop. I'm waiting for the bus when Ashton pulls out of his driveway. He pulls up to he curb next to me.
"Hey sweet cheeks, why don't you get in. I'll give you a ride." I'm shocked. I've never talked to him before, let alone a member of the male species.
"Um...no thanks. I-I'm fine."
"Oh c'mon. It's fine. Plus, better than the bus."
"N-no. I'm f-fine." Gosh, why do I keep stuttering. I see the bus round the corner.
"Alright fine. Suit yourself." And with that, he drives away.
The bus pulls up and I get on. I think I might be the only senior who actually takes the bus. I have my license, I just don't like driving to school.
I don't sit with anyone on the bus. I sit alone in the front. I was never really good at making friends. But I have one best friend: Luke Hemmings. We've been best friends since we were young.
The bus pulls out to the school and let's us off. Standing there waiting for me is Luke.
"Morning Lucifer!" I greet him.
"Morning Cat." He walks by my side as we enter the school. He follows me to my locker. He leans against the others next to mine.
"Anything you want to tell me?" He asks.
"Like what?"
"Like Ashton asking if you wanted a ride and you denying it?"
"That was nothing. And how did you hear about it?"
"He told me." Ashton and Luke are good friends. Almost as good as friends as we are. Even though they're friends and Ashton and I are neighbors, we never all hung out together. You may find it weird but to us it's not.
"Well there's nothing to it anyways. He just talked to me."
"He's popular. There is something to it."
"Like what?"
"He can make you popular. He can make your senior year the best year!"
"Yeah, he can also do the double d's."
"Double d's?"
"Do and ditch."
"I thought you were talking about these." He motions to my chest. I roll my eyes.
"Whatever." I shut my locker and begin walking to my first class. He follows.
"C'mon Cat."
"What?"
"He doesn't just start talking to you for the first time in 14 years." I moved here when I was three. Ashton had already been living in his home when we got there.
"Well maybe he had a change of heart."
"No, he wants you." We walk into class.
"Well I don't want him. And I never will."
"Whom will you never want?" A voice purrs in my ear. I tense up.
"Sup Ash." Luke says.
"Hey Luke." I quickly scramble away and to my seat while they're talking. I pull out my book so hopefully they won't talk to me. But luck is just not on my side.
"Oh kitty." My book is pulled from my face as Ashton sits on my desk. "Play with me kitty."
"D-don't call me t-that."
"Hey Ash. Where did you come up with that name anyway?" Thank you Luke.
"Well you call her Cat. So I'll call her kitty." He looks at me.
"P-please don't." I whisper. Ashton is about to respond when the bell goes off. He hops off my desk and goes to his own seat, which is thankfully across the room from me.
Class begins. The teacher stands in the front of the room, talking about who knows what. Eventually, he starts a slideshow with notes. I pull out my notebook and start writing things down.
Class ends and Luke comes up to me.
"Hey, I missed a few notes. Could I get them from you?"
"Yeah I guess." I pull my notebook back out from my bag and hand it to him. His face lights up. As he flips through it, that light turns into a shadow as he sees all the notes I have.
"Shit Cat. Got enough?"
"No. I don't."
"Well I think you do."
"That's your opinion. And opinions are like mixtapes."
"How?"
"I don't want to hear yours." He laughs. An arm wraps around Luke's shoulder.
"Luke, I'm having a party tomorrow night. You're coming right?" Ashton asks.
"Hell yeah." Ashton looks to me.
"Sorry Kitty. You're not invited."
"I wouldn't want to go anyways. Just keep the noise down."
"But Kitty. You've gotta get use to the noise."
"Why is that?" He leans in close to me, his breath hot on my earlobe. His voice breaks the small silence, speaking in a whisper.
"Because you're gonna make so much noise from all the things I'm gonna do to you."
