Prologue
Why must I be locked away, I have not talked to a human in 10 years. I do not belong here. I do not wish to stay here. I'm not who they say I am.
Chapter 1
The rain fell hard on an early April morning. The door bell rang and the 5 kids came running down the stairs. It was only a matter of time before they were taken away, just like the rest. The youngest Avery opened the door first, a shrill sounded throughout the house awakening the mother and father. It was too late he had taken them, all of them. All that was left was the quiet sound of the grandfather clock ticking, and little Avery's teddy bear. I never understood why I see these things, maybe it's because I'm insane, that's what the jail guard tells me anyways. He has always listened to my stories. I know he listens he pretends he doesn't, but I know he does. He always responds with the same monotone response. I'm insane. I've been here too many years to count. Locked away because nobody wants me, nobody wants me because they think I'm a killer. I'm not a killer.
Chapter 2
" Abby wake up!" Your going to be late. I woke to find my new roommate Sydney picking through my clothes. "Coffe?" She asked handing me a steamy cupful. "When do classes start?" I asked pushes back the covers. "In 15 minutes, and your still not ready" Sydney said frowning. With that she tossed a bright yellow dress at me and some brown boots. "Get dressed" she said going into the bathroom. I sighed and hurriedly put on my clothes. Quickly brushed through my hair and put it into a messy bun with a white flower pinning it up. "Then I grabbed my bag and went out the door, soon enough Sydney was by my side. As we were walking along the deck to our morning classes, out of no where a football came souring across the lawn and hit Sydney right in the head. "Ouch" Sydney said rubbing her head, then a boy came running across the field. "Hey I'm sorry our football hit you" he said smiling shyly.
"That's okay" Sydney said we were just leaving". Then Sydney pulled my arm and we walked off. "Who was that?" I said tugging on Sydney's arm for her to stop. "Nobody that you need to know, he means bad things Abby" she said looking at me. "Trust me you won't talk to him." "I promise" I said.
Chapter 3
"Sydney, wait up" I called after her. "Remind me again why we have to go to this thing". Sydney looked at me with a frown. "Because if we don't we will be the only ones NOT there."
I groaned pulling down my dress. "Is it really necessary for me to wear this?" I asked motioning the skin tight black dress barley covering half of my body. "Yes silly it's a party" Sydney said applying the 5th coat of lipgloss since we left the dorm. We stopped in front of a huge dorm with music blaring so load I couldn't hear Sydney open the door and ask me to come in. When we walked in there were people everywhere. I quickly made my way to an empty bedroom and sat on the bed. Then the door shut. I quickly ran to open it but it was locked. Then the lights went out.
Chapter 4
"Hello" I called out "anybody there" I listened waiting for a response. But there was nothing. Then out of nowhere someone grabbed me covering my mouth I tried to scream but who ever it was had a strong grip and wouldn't let go. They pulled me into the closet and shut the door. "What do you want" I said looking at the dark figure. They didn't answer but they pulled out a knife. "Help!" I screamed. I heard the door creek open and the figure was gone. "What the hell" I heard a voice say I turned around face to face with a boy about my age looking at the floor where I was. "H-how did you find me?" I asked "I heard someone screaming" he said looking at me. "Are you okay" he asked. "Yeah I'm fine" I said looking at the floor. "What's wrong with your neck" he asked moving his thumb across my neck. Before I could respond he pulled me into the bath room. The boy had shaggy brown hair and the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. He quickly cleaned up the cut in my neck, and put a band-aide over the cut. "Thanks" I said looking at him "for saving me, sort of." "No problem" he said turning on the lights in the bedroom. "I'll see you around" I said opening the door. But when I turned around he was gone, lost in the see of people.
Chapter 5
" Finally" said Sydney from the top bunk "it's saturday." I looked through the cracks at the mattress above me.
I rolled out of bed and put on shorts a tee and a jacket I left my hair down and brushed through it then I went out the door. I went around campus looking for the boy I meet last night. How had he known were to find her?
I turned the corner and found him. "Hey" I said walking up next to him. He turned around to face me but looked shocked to see me. "Hi Abby" he said. "Wait how do you know my name? How did you know where to find me last night? And what's your name?" I said. He looked at me stunned. "Okay" I said let's start over, how are you?" He looked at me and said "my name is Luke Willow." Then he grabbed my hand and brought me over to the nearest table. A waiter approached the table and asked us what we wanted. "Eggs & Bacon, with grapefruit juice please." I said Lucas didn't order anything. "How did you find me last night?" I said "I told you, I heard screaming." He said "but that doesn't make any since, I could have been anywhere." I said. He looked at me and smiled. "Maybe your just lucky." He said getting up. "Maybe we can go for a walk later." I said looking back at him. "Sure, ill meet you outside my dorm in an hour." He said. Then he turned round and walked away. I don't know what it was about him but something inside of me wanted to be with him every second of the day. Maybe I like him I thought to myself. Maybe he likes me.
