A pretty girl walks by my locker

I was staring at her when my best friend blocked my view. Hoping she hadn't noticed that I was staring, I grabbed the books I would need for my next period.

"So you're just going to act like you weren't staring again?"

Of course, she noticed. We have been friends ever since kindergarten. She knows me better than anyone.

"Yeah well, I was kinda hoping you hadn't realized."

"You've been doing this for months babe. I know you too well not to notice."

I sigh and close my locker. Resting my head against it.

"Come on, isn't it about time you walk over to her and just talk to her."

At that, I lifted my head up and turned so fast I nearly gave myself whiplash.

"Are you crazy?! Like she would ever talk to me. I'd much rather save myself from that embarrassment."

"At least stop agonizing yourself over her then. You deserve love but standing here, pining away isn't going to work."

I know she's right, of course, I do. It just isn't that easy, it really isn't. I would've moved on by now if I knew how. Something about her just draws me in.

Feeling guilty after my silence, my best friend speaks up again.

"Look, I'm sorry. I know it isn't easy, but I hate seeing you like this. You deserve the world but here you are getting bummed out by this one girl while I'm sure there are plenty of other people who would love to be in a relationship with you."

She steps closer and gives me a hug.

"I love you, you know that, right?"

"Yeah, I know. Come on let's get to class before we're late.".

After that talk, I decided Julia was right. If I'm not going to act on my feelings, I should at least to actively try to get over them. From now on, I will put in the effort to stop looking at her. Who knows, I might even be able look at her without thinking she's a literal angel by the time the year ends, and maybe I'll meet someone else once she doesn't take up my entire mind.

The rest of the day was uneventful. Classes were boring as always, and we received some new assignments. I was sitting in my final class of today, just watching time tick by. Waiting until the bell rang, so I could get out of here. That was, however, until my teacher came by my desk and asked me to stay after class.

I didn't do anything to stay, did I? I had an A on my last assignment and I never slack off. My parents would kill me if I ever got a bad grade. I spent the rest of the class thinking about what I could've done, I was worrying so much I almost didn't hear the bell ring. I walked up to my teacher and braced myself for what was to come.

"Thank you for staying. I hope I didn't worry you too much."

"Oh, it's fine miss. If I may ask, why did you want me to stay?"

"You always get straight to the point, I like that about you. Well, there is this student in your year that is struggling a bit. She has plenty of potential, she really has. However, she doesn't seem to use it. I would hate to see her redo her year because of this. I was wondering, as my top student, if you would mind tutoring her a bit?"
