"Tomioka, look behind you," Sanemi said, his sharp eyes fixed on the demon approaching.
"Hmm?" Giyuu turned slightly, her calm demeanor unwavering.
The demon with a disturbing grin walked toward them. "This is the first time I've been happy to see some Demon Slayers," he said, his voice dripping with malice.
Sanemi smirked, his hand already gripping his sword. "Don't worry. That happiness of yours will disappear in a moment. We'll make sure of it."
Giyuu's eyes narrowed as she faced the demon. "What happened to the villagers? Did you kill them all?" Her tone was cold, and yet, beneath the surface, a flicker of anger simmered.
The demon chuckled, a creepy smile spreading across his face. "No, I killed some, and the others ran away. I was so sad when I realized they were gone. After all, they were my food. But then, I found some new, tasty meals just a few days ago."
"Tch, this bastard," Sanemi muttered, clenching his teeth.
The demon's eyes landed on Giyuu. "Who's that beauty? I love beautiful girls. What's your name, girl?"
Giyuu remained silent, her expression unmoved.
"Well, I'm so hungry," the demon continued with a sickening grin. "Let's finish this quickly so I can eat both of you."
Sanemi snorted. "Don't worry, we don't have time to waste on you either. Let's end this."
Without another word, Sanemi charged forward, unleashing Wind Breathing, Third Form: Clean Claws—Purifying Wind. His blade sliced through the air with fierce precision, but the demon was faster.
With a flash, the demon used his Blood Demon Art, teleporting from one spot to another, sending blood arrows flying toward Sanemi. The arrows moved swiftly, sharp and deadly, nearly impossible to dodge. Though the demon lacked raw strength, his ability to teleport gave him an upper hand, allowing him to evade attacks and strike back quickly.
Giyuu glanced at Sanemi, her expression calm yet determined. "I'm going to provoke him. I'll defend against his attacks, and in the meantime, you cut off his head."
Sanemi scoffed. "Are you sure? Those stupid arrows are sharp as hell. If they touch you, they'll pierce through your body."
"I know," Giyuu replied, her voice steady. "Just trust me and follow my instructions."
"Don't order me around like that, Tomioka. I don't like it," Sanemi grumbled.
Without waiting for a response, Giyuu dashed toward the demon. "Hey, I thought you didn't like wasting time. Don't you want me now?" she taunted, her voice calm but edged with challenge.
The demon's eyes gleamed with hunger. "Of course, I want to eat you as soon as possible," he replied, almost gleeful.
"Then why on earth are you running like that? Come on, hurry up," Giyuu goaded, her tone teasing but controlled.
The demon snarled, unleashing his full power, launching a thousand blood arrows toward her. Giyuu, unphased, moved with fluid grace, her katana flashing as she executed Water Breathing, Eleventh Form: Dead Calm. The arrows dissolved into nothing as they came into contact with her technique, the storm of blood neutralized in an instant.
Taking the opportunity, Sanemi rushed behind the demon and with a fierce swing, unleashed Wind Breathing, First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter, slicing clean through the demon's neck. The demon's eyes widened in shock before his body crumbled into dust, disappearing into the wind.
Sanemi wiped the sweat from his brow and walked over to Giyuu. "That was a good strategy, Tomioka. And what was that? Eleventh Form of your Water Breathing? I'm impressed."
Giyuu nodded slightly. "Hmm."
Sanemi studied her face, noticing something off. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she replied, though her voice was softer than usual. "But I think I need to work on my Eleventh Form."
Sanemi frowned. "Why? It looked perfect to me. You literally nullified all one thousand arrows."
"Not all," Giyuu admitted, looking down at her chest. "One of the arrows grazed me near my chest. It's bleeding."
"WHAT?! Are you okay?" Sanemi's voice was suddenly filled with concern, his rough demeanor cracking.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Giyuu said, brushing off his concern.
"What do you mean 'don't worry'?" Sanemi barked. "Let me see it!"
Giyuu gave him a tired look. "It's near my chest. So..."
Sanemi froze, his face flushing slightly. "Oh..."
An awkward silence fell between them before Sanemi cleared his throat. "We can stay in this village tonight. You should rest and let that wound heal."
"Are you kidding me?" Giyuu replied, her voice filled with disbelief. "In this village? Can't you see the dead bodies? The blood everywhere? The broken doors? And you can't even smell it?"
Sanemi's eye twitched at her blunt assessment. "💢 Okay, okay, I got it! Let's go," he grumbled, clearly annoyed but concerned.
