Day after Day

The night was like any other, The house was quiet and evryone was asleep. I slipped out of bed thirsty as ever. I was cautious not to make a noise. As i sat at the dining room table my head started racing thinking about life and every thing I want in life. I turned my phone over, 3am, I need to go to bed. I made my way back and climbed in bed, staring at the ceiling for a bit connecting the invisible dots letting my mind run wild. My boyfriend Austin rolled over and put his around me. Looking at his arm, drawing circles till I fell asleep. I woke to Austin leaning over to kiss me gently before he headed to work. As soon as he left I knew I was stuck with my demons. I tried my hardest to fall back asleep but that just wasn’t in my cards today. I forced my self out of bed and put some music on to occupy my mind as I went about my routine, same routine day to day. Brush my hair, brush my teeth, wash my face, feed the animals, then I clean. It doesn’t take long, occupies me for maybe an hour or 2. Day after day it’s the same ol thing, I need something new, something different. As if on cue my phone rings, I look for my phone but by the time I find it it stopped ringing so I call the number back.

“ Hey Alina, it’s Ashley. I got a new phone any way you wanna go thrifting today?” she said out of breath like shes been running a marathon.

“Sure. Meet at the cafe on the corner?”

“Bet. be there in 20”

I rush to find an outfit that isn’t stained or ripped, all these clothes but only worn around home. I do my hair presentable and walk to the cafe to wait. Ashley is already at a table with two coffees, I walk closer and her smile grows.

“ Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy” she gleams and hugs me

“ Hey, whatcha been up to?” I ask looking at her outfit, she always dresses for cold weather, she has a giant black Puffer jacket zipped to her chin with a huge grey knit infinity scarf, black leggings and grey ugg boots. We talk a little bit on our way to the thrift store, about our day to day and our relationships.

We see the sign JUNGLE THRIFTS “WILDLY GOOD DEALS”. Rows on rows of clothes of all colors and sizes, but Ashley is drawn to the antique section which is filled with alot of old relics and jewelry. We even came across an old ouija board. Ashley saw it and immediately came up to me with it, knowing that I am catholic and that is I was forbidden from using one growing up. It gave me the shivers and shook my head. I went to look at the jewelry and found a cute necklace with little diamonds surrounding a cloud, it reminded me of my baby girl I lost last year.

“Hey Ashley, Im done if you are.”  she looked up at me with her arms full of trinkets

“Okay!” she said smiling and we headed to check out.
