The next day, the tension in the Underwood household between the men and Harriet was at an unbelievable level. the tension could be cut with a knife. It was horrendous. Thomas had decided that under no circumstance, Harriet would be allowed to leave his eyesight for the season. he had been told by a friend there was gossip around the family. People had wondered how Thomas had allowed his daughter to go rogue. There was gossip around Beatrice. If Harriet was anything to go by, they reckoned Lady Beatrice would be the same. how could she not be? She was related to Harriet after all.
The morning started as it usually did for Beatrice. Her kitten, Bella, woke her up and she got in a day dress. A simple one. A blue one with an empress skirt. Her ladymaid was combing through her brunette hair.
"Are you alright, Bea?" The young lady asked her friend.
"Huh? Sorry, I was deep in thought there, wasn't I?" Beatrice asked and she shook her head.
"I can imagine the last 16 hours haven't been the most enjoyable," Grace replied.
Beatrice let out a small laugh. The meal last night was awful. Her father had chosen to take his meal in his office. her brother hadn't spoken a word to Harriet. Her mother had been pretty uncomfortable too. When it came to the evening events, she could hear her mother and grandmother Henrietta having several heated conversations. She heard her name mentioned so many times. The way Henrietta spoke was as if she was a pawn, not a lady. not a human. She wondered if she would be able to speak to her mother at some point today.
"Has there been much gossip in the servant's quarters?" Beatrice asked.
"Not too much. But, Mama told me she could hear your father and brother screaming at your sister," Grace said, taking the brunette hair and placing it in a clip.
"I couldn't hear it, I just didn't want to eavesdrop," Beatrice responded and she smiled as her friend finished with her hair.
"How is your hair? is it to your liking?" Grace asked.
"I love it, thank you, Grace," She said and smiled. She loved it when Grace did her hair.
"You got any plans for today?" Grace asked.
"I think I am going with Michael and Katherine for an afternoon tea," Beatrice said and she let out a sigh. She loved spending time with her brother but she was convinced it was going to be overshadowed by the events that happened with her sister.
"What is it?" Grace asked.
"I know that it is less than a week till we travel to London. I am worried it will be more intense now that Harriet is in trouble with Mama and Papa," Beatrice said with a small sigh.
"Hasn't your father always said he wishes for you to have a love match?" Grace asked as she sat on the windowsill.
"He has said the same for both me and Harriet. And the boys. I mean have you met Katherine she is the definition of perfect for Michael. She keeps him grounded," Beatrice said.
