"In this place...I have you there to guide me..."-Katie Reider
Cory stared up at the ceiling. The perfectly painted ceiling of Kris's room while the girl slept beside her. The perfection of Monteverde was in stark contrast to everything that had happened the night before. It wouldn't have been so bad if the catastrophe was over and done with. Cory was used to cleaning up messes, mainly her own. Or Switcher's. But she had a horrible feeling in her stomach that the real catastrophe was only just beginning.
Various scenes from the night before played through her mind like a bad movie. Kris's screaming unhinged cunt of a mother. Kris breaking down in the middle of her reception and then the quiet placid admission of murder in the dark and quiet bar afterwards.
Murder
It was not a word she could associate with Kris. She turned and looked at the girl sleeping beside her.
Why had she done it?
That was the true question. How did that even work??
Had she met PJ at the bull pens to drop off a concerto ticket and just casually mentioned she felt Wolf and Elijah needed to shuffle on off to that great BDSM playroom in the sky because her girlfriend had showed up in a fuck-me dress and fuck-me heels and gotten fucked?
And then PJ agreed and contacted her mob connections and now both Wolf and Elijah were sleeping with the fishes?
How had the conversation even come up??
With a frustrated groan, Cory turned her head to look at Kris again and was surprised to see the girl somberly studying her. Cory turned on her side and reached out to place a hand on Kris's hip.
"Well...it's morning." She said for lack of anything better to say. Kris nodded then quickly looked away as she got out of bed.
And there was the other catastrophe
Cory rolled back over onto her back and shut her eyes.
And that was the one catastrophe that might not ever be fixed
"I...I...need to see if the re...reviews...are...are...out yet." Kris said quickly. Cory nodded and got out of bed. She glanced at her FitBit and frowned.
10:23 am?
"How come your phone hasn't blown up? Or the door been knocked down yet?"
"Be...because I...I...turned my...my...phone off." Kris heaved a sigh as she walked over to study her make-up-streaked face in her dresser mirror. The night before, she'd fallen into bed and was asleep before her head hit the pillow.
Cory took note of the girl's slim legs and firm ass. Instead of feeling a rush of desire, she felt like a creeper hiding in the bushes outside someone's window.
Fuck
"And...and...no one has kn...knocked on..the door..." Kris paused and shut her eyes and took a few deep breaths as she tried to calm her stuttering. "Be...because I think...fo...for once...no...no one knows wha...what to say."
Cory couldn't argue with that. She stood up and stretched.
"Don't reviews take a day or so? I mean, it seems early."
"It is for the...the...New York Ti...Times and oth...other news...papers. But...but...the online stuff wi...will be out."
Kri walked into the bathroom and got some make-up wipes out of her medicine cabinet. She came out and started to scrub viciously at her face.
