Draco noticed Albus' hesitation and took the decision out of his hands, drawing back the curtain to reveal Scorpius sitting on the cot staring blankly out the window. He seemed to be slouching as if every bone and muscle in his body was screaming with exhaustion and pain, which in truth, it was. Albus just gazed at Scorpius until a hand on his back gently pushed him towards his catatonic best friend.
"Scorpius?" He said, barely more than a whisper. "It's Albus."
"And your father," Draco interjected.
"Are you feeling alright?"
Nothing.
"Can you talk to me?"
Nothing.
"Can you look at me?" Albus said, getting more and more nervous.
Still nothing.
"Can you-"
"Get out," Scorpius muttered.
"What?" Albus walked closer to him as did Draco. Scorpius sensed them getting closer and flinched away. When he did so they both stopped in their tracks. "There's no reason to be scared. It's alright."
Scorpius turned his head slowly and mechanically to look Draco dead set in the eyes.
"Not you, him. Get. Out," he said firmly to his father.
"But Sco-" Draco tried to get a word in.
"BLOODY HELL, GET OUT. I DON'T WANT YOU ANYWHERE NEAR ME!!" He yelled.
Draco backed away and a fear flooded his eyes that neither of the younger boys had ever seen before. He turned on his heel and left. Scorpius turned back to look out the window. Albus stood, frozen in shock at the event that had just unfolded in front of him. Scorpius, the quiet boy who would never even dream of hurting anyone raised his voiced and yelled at his own father.
"Are you just going to stand there or are you going to sit down?" Scorpius said coldly, dragging Albus out of his stupor. He collapsed into the armchair rather more heavily than he intended.
"Are you alright?" He asked again, more softly than previously.
Scorpius heaved a deep sigh, closing his eyes and leaning his head against the stone wall. Then said "No, I feel empty and drained and just tired of everything. I remember what Father did to me in the other timeline. I can still feel the pain in my neck from when he slammed and pressed my head against his desk. I don't want to let that man near me ever again. I can remember when Delphi used the Cruciatus curse on me, the unimaginable pain." He gritted his teeth when he uttered the word pain and a shiver wracked Scorpius' body. "I know what hope and happiness are. I know the definitions but I can't seem to find either of them in any memories I have. It's all just anguish and despair and torment."
Albus just sat and listened then in a single fleeting moment of impulse he took Scorpius' hand in his own.
