Charlie gathered his strength and returned to the cafe, following Yena. He didn't know how he could look at Evan calmly now, not understanding if the feelings he had felt were mutual. Had that been his usual politeness and attempt to be nice in the closet, no matter what happened?

In the time he had spent outside, the guys had already managed to switch game. Everyone had completed one task, and they all switched to a more collective game of "Never Have I Ever". The rules were even simpler here, as far as Charlie remembered. In turn, each player says a statement beginning with the words "Never Have I Ever". Players for whom the statement is true drink from their glasses.

It was an even more convenient way to ask everyone's questions. And no less elegant way to set someone up.

"Oh, well, you're back!" Nathan grinned when Charlie entered the room again, "We're just getting started. Casey and Valerie are in the closet right now."

"Great," Charlie, catching Evan's worried look, smiled crookedly and grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the table, "I have something to ask."

"I have no idea how you talked me into this..." Evan sighed, holding a half-full glass of whiskey cola in his hand.

"Relax, grump, we're all friends here!" Nathan slapped him on the shoulder, "Alright, go ahead with your question!"

"Oh, no, no, no!" Wendy exclaimed, "We agreed to go in a circle! So... I've never flirted with a teacher."

Nobody except Darren and Nathan touched their glasses. Darren after his message to Coach Nash didn't raise any questions, but Nathan...

"What are you staring at?" the guy rolled his eyes, "Did you see what Mr. Bonnet's butt looks like?"

"For God's sake, man, shut up!" Evan laughed, "I don't want to see what you see in math class!"

"Don't say you haven't checked him out!" Nathan playfully raised his eyebrows.

"I appreciate other things, old man, sorry!"

Right after Wendy, in Valerie's absence, it was Nathan's turn. With a mysterious look, he shook his glass and, looking at all the other guys, asked his question.

"I've never kissed someone of the same sex," after which he took a sip from his glass himself. Yena, without hesitation, did the same. Charlie, sitting next to Evan, heard his quiet sigh. Holden, gulping down his glass in one go, put it on the table. Charlie felt a chill from this hopelessness in the guy's gaze and in this gesture.

What kiss was he talking about? Surely, not the one that had just happened behind the closet door. Charlie took a sip and smiled uncertainly at Yena who winked at him.

"Evan?" Darren looked at Holden in surprise, "What don't we know about you, quiet one?"

"Don't pretend you don't remember that kiss in the locker room, sweetie," Evan chuckled nastily and blew Darren an air kiss.

"Fuck off!"

"Great, great," Nathan purred approvingly, "It's already more interesting to talk to you guys."

"So, it's my turn?" asked Max, "I've never done drugs."

The only person who drank, as expected, was Darren. He took a sip and shrugged indifferently.

"Depends on what you consider a drug, kid."

"Yeah, depends on what exactly," said Evan, looking meaningfully into his empty glass, "Sometimes drugs aren't substances or alcohol. It's... something less tangible."

Valerie and Casey came out of the closet at the timer signal and returned to their seats. Charlie swallowed hard, going over the prepared question in his mind. Was it worth asking now, after Evan's reaction? He hadn't emptied his glass all at once for nothing. To... to avoid more provocative topics.
