=AEVERIE=
SLEEP does not come easily, and when I finally manage to drift off, I am haunted by nightmares, first of my parents and then the fire. Everything was burning around me.
I wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air, covered in sweat. I need some fresh air or something to calm myself down.
I climb out of bed, slip into a long white robe, tightened it around my waist and stride across the room to the door. I peek outside to find the guard gone. Feeling quite lucky, I slip out.
Wandering the dimly lit halls of the palace, I walked around aimlessly. The halls were quiet, no elves in sight. I noted how the halls were different but a still a bit similar to our own palace back in Dale. Although the intricate details and designs were far more elegant than ours could ever be. I couldn't quite hide my wonder as I gaze at my surroundings. This place is really something to behold.
My steps were halted when I heard a deep voice called out to me.
'Aeverie?'
My blood ran cold.
I slowly turned on my heels to look further down the hall and I see king Thranduil standing there. I hold my breath. What is he doing here?
The elven king stride gracefully towards me. The expression on his face, quite puzzling. I feel my nerves starting to rise as I look at him with wide eyes.
'What are you doing out here? It's already late..' Thranduil inquires.
I gave out an embarrassed smile. 'Uh-I couldn't sleep-' I paused and met the king's gaze, blushing all of a sudden when I remembered how I left in a hurry awhile ago.
Thranduil's gaze softened and he sighed.
'Come with me then. I will show you something.' he says and turned around.
I followed him with my gaze and eventually walked behind him.
