=AEVERIE=

SEVERAL harps and flutes signalled our arrival, along with the general clatter and clinking of glasses and merry conversations. I glided to the side to let king Thranduil through. The king was announced and respectfully acknowledged by his people, all of whom bowed their heads low and raised their glasses to him. I examined the room and saw the people of Willowmere, my people, scattered around the room, mixed and mingling with the elves of Mirkwood. I flashed them a genuine smile, happy that they are at least enjoying themselves.

I threw the king a glance and at the same moment, he too glanced my way. Our gazes met and he flashed me a rather coy smile. He then tore away from looking at me and raised his hand to his people.

'My dear elves of Mirkwood, let us also acknowledge the presence of our beloved princess of Willowmere, princess Aeverie Everhart!' he exclaimed and the room was once again filled with cheers and clapping and clinking of glasses directed at me.

I bowed and I waved, feeling the warmth on my cheeks. My mouth opened in awe when Freya approached me and placed a beautiful crown made with colorful flowers on my hair. I was so touched by the gesture,I took her hand in mine and squeezed it.

'I remember you!' a voice boomed from across the room.

All eyes darted to where it came from. It was from none other than prince Legolas who had been sitting at the far corner of the room, drinking with his friends. He jumped up at the table and with the agility of a warrior elf, crossed the threshold in under a minute.

I laughed coyly as he jumped to where I was standing.

'Oh I remember you..so well.. it's nice to see you again, beautiful princess..' a glimmer of smile tugged at the corner of the prince's mouth.

I shook my head as I continue to laugh. 'It's great to see you again prince Legolas.'

Prince Legolas shot me a sheepish-looking grin, crossing his arms over his chest.

'Oh my, you have grown elegantly.'

I ignored his remark and snorted back. He drew forward and took a hold of my hand.

'Come Aeverie, let's drink tonight. Let's enjoy ourselves, shall we?' he exclaimed and without another word, pulled me down with him. I whipped my head around to look at the king but he just nodded his head lightly, a faint smile formed on his lips.

I swallowed. Was that sadness I saw in his eyes? Or am I just imagining things? I shrugged it off and tore my gaze away from the king.
