"Oh Darling, you look so beautiful in this dress." Gayeong's mom gushed as she adjusted the veil on her daughter's head.
The Kang Family had been bustling with activity since the early morning with the last-minute preparations. With only two days left before the gala, Gayeong demanded that everything be completed in time for the event.
In her mind, the gala would be her moment of triumph, a chance to bask in the spotlight as the woman who finally won Min Yoongi's heart.
Every glance, every whispered admiration from the crowd would affirm what she'd always believed...
She was the perfect wife.
Her dream was finally coming true and nothing could take it away from her now.
And not only that, the announcement would be a devastating blow to Seo Mira. Gayeong was now sure that she was the true winner.
Gayeong beamed, admiring her reflection in the mirror. She spun around slowly, taking in the sight of the wedding dress she had so carefully chosen.
"It's perfect," Gayeong said in awe.
"Yoongi, don't you think she looks so beautiful?" Gayeong's mom turned her head to smile at Yoongi who was sitting on the sofa, his eyes fixed on the ground.
Yoongi sat on the sofa, his eyes glued to the ground, barely acknowledging her words.
Gayeong's mom hesitated, her frown deepening as she glanced at her daughter, concerned by Yoongi's lack of response.
"Yoongi...?" she called again, her voice tinged with unease but Yoongi remained still.
Gayeong shifted her attention to him, waiting for him to respond.
She forced an awkward chuckle, trying to smooth over the tension.
"Mom, can you leave?" Gayeong's voice was firm as she stepped down from the wooden platform. Her mom gave her an understanding nod before quietly leaving the room, the door clicking shut behind her.
With the room now silent, Gayeong slowly approached Yoongi who still sat with his head bowed, lost in his own world.
She forced a smile, adjusting her veil as if hoping that the sight of her in the dress would pull him out of his thoughts.
"Don't you think this dress fits me so well?" Gayeong twirled in front of him as she sought any kind of reaction.
"Gayeong." Yoongi's tone was low, almost like a whisper.
"Yes?" Gayeong took a seat beside him. Yoongi slowly lifted his head, his eyes meeting hers with a blank, unreadable expression.
His gaze seemed to pierce through her and the forced smile on her face faltered as she waited for whatever he was about to say.
"Why did you lie?"
Gayeong's eyes widened slightly before she forced a nervous chuckle, pretending not to understand.
"Our family's only doing what's right." Gayeong sighed, her shoulders slumping as she tried to maintain her composure.
But Yoongi's blank stare hardened into a glare. Gayeong immediately placed her hand over his, attempting to calm him down.
"Isn't this what we always wanted?!" Gayeong's voice trembled as she squeezed his hand, "Seeing me in a wedding dress and saying the vows — this is what you wanted, right?!"
Yoongi jerked his hand away from hers, the sudden motion causing her to flinch. He stood up without another word. Gayeong scrambled to her feet, grabbing his arm to stop him from walking away.
"Our family's doing this for us! For our child!" Gayeong cried out, desperately wrapping her arms around Yoongi in a backhug, refusing to let him leave.
"Our child?" Yoongi scoffed in disbelief. He slowly pried her arms away from him. He remained still, refusing to turn around and face her.
"I've never slept with you. How could that be mine?"
