A few days later, the reality of their impending separation began to weigh heavily on Kamari and Shubman. The past few weeks in New York had been nothing short of magical, but now the inevitable parting loomed over them.
Kamari had to return to India for work, and Shubman was heading to Zimbabwe for the cricket series—a series that marked a significant milestone in his career as captain.
That morning, the air in the hotel room was thick with unspoken emotion. Kamari stood by the window, dressed in a simple yet elegant outfit—a white shirt tucked into high-waisted jeans, her hair pulled back in a loose ponytail.
She stared out at the city skyline, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill.
Shubman, on the other hand, was pacing the room, a storm of emotions brewing inside him. He was dressed casually in a grey hoodie and jeans, but his usual relaxed demeanour was nowhere to be seen.
His eyes kept darting toward Kamari, and every time he looked at her, his chest tightened with a mix of love and frustration.
Finally, unable to take the silence any longer, Shubman walked over to Kamari and wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her close. She leaned back into him, sighing softly as his warmth enveloped her.
"Baby," he murmured against her ear, his voice thick with emotion, "I fucking hate this. I hate that we have to be apart now."
Kamari closed her eyes, letting his words sink in. "I know," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I hate it too. But we knew this was coming."
"Yeah, but that doesn't make it any easier," Shubman replied, his tone laced with frustration. "I don't want to let you go, Kamari. I don't want to be away from you."
She turned around in his arms, looking up at him with tears brimming in her eyes.
"Shubman, this is your dream. You've worked so hard for this, and now you're the captain of the Indian team. I'm so proud of you, but I just... I wish we had more time."
He cupped her face in his hands, wiping away the tears that had begun to fall. "You're my dream too, Kamari. I don't want to do this without you by my side."
Kamari's heart ached at his words, and she leaned up to kiss him, pouring all of her love and longing into the kiss.
When they pulled away, their foreheads pressed together, she whispered, "You're going to do amazing, Shubman. You're going to lead the team and make everyone proud. And when it's all over, we'll be together again."
