The trees rustled in the dark summer night outside of Kaia's house in the hills of Los Angeles, California. Deep in her sleep, floating in the clouds, moving around slightly in her soft silk bedsheets and the wind blowing outside and through the window above her bed. The curtains fluttered softly and quietly in the wind. The silence would put anyone to sleep because of the tranquility they would experience. The only source of light around was the moonlight shining from above.

Even in this peak state of peace, she slowly opened her eyes, awake. She moved around a little from laying on her side to laying on her back. She looked around and then fixed her eyes on the window above her. She saw something on the window stool. It looked like the claws of a bird. She slowly got up and looked up. The claw had scales, sharp nails, and three digits. It looked like it was coming from outside and below the window almost climbing up. She moved closer towards the window, standing on her bed. As she got closer, the claw turned into a hand and then suddenly the creature snapped onto her head, and dragged her out of the window. Kaia fell out the window down two stories but that's not what killed her. This is what the cops saw on the CCTV cameras that Kaia had installed in her house in every room because of her anxiety towards robbers.

That morning, Kaia's half eaten corpse laid on the driveway. Her face mauled off, limbs twisted backwards, feet torn apart, and stomach dug out. Her mother witnessed her first when she got out to water the plants. She dialed the police and they checked the camera system Kaia had installed.

"What is that thing?" Kaia's mother, Dulcie, asked as she uncontrollably sobbed both in heartbreak and the trauma of seeing the horrifying state of her daughter's corpse on the driveway.

"It's unidentifiable. We have never seen an animal like this before" said the cop.

"We think it may be a Komodo dragon that might've escaped from a local zoo but it's unclear how it can climb up to the second floor." Said the other cop.

The mother tried to find words to say after the cops answered but her tears choked her into not saying anything and continue sobbing.

The cops looked at each other feeling awkward standing and reporting their findings to the victim's mother.
"We will reach out to you when we find more information. As of now, we're collecting evidence from any possible witnesses and tracing any footprints." Said one of the cops
"See you." said the other cop as both of them walked out the house to find rest of the team.

As they walked out, the driveway was covered in caution tape and the body was put in a black bag to be taken to the mortuary. The ambulance was there, the police cars parked up front and a whole team of investigators and one forensic scientist from a reputed Private Investigation Company that's paired with one of America's leading genetics company was hired. The cops stood facing their back to the entire scene

"Richie, this is the second case today." Said the cop.
"What?" Said Richie, the cop, with a startled expression.
"Right.. a family in Agora Hills heard a woman screaming in the mountains. Apparently she went night hiking and camping. We asked the family of the victim about what she did all day. We went to find her and there she laid. Her body chopped into two pieces but only the bottom half was there. Her entire top part went missing. The family was able to confirm her pants and shoes." Said the other cop.
"Is this a killer? Is it one of those masked serial killers again with a twisted hobby? I can't take this job anymore, Elio." Said Richie bending his head down and putting his hands on his knees to relax.
"It can't be. The body was so oddly torn in half. It looked almost like something had bitten her entire top part off." Said Elio.
"Nothing that big exists in California to chomp a person's torso off from their legs." said Richie getting up from the assumed position.
