Dick was happy for the first time in a long time. He was actually content, which was even more rare than his being truly happy. He was content because Bruce had just given him extremely good advice. Even better, they'd cut a deal.
"You promise you'll really go through with it?" Robin asked his mentor as he stood in the zeta tube. He had almost zero confidence that Batman would do what he was planning.
"I'm more worried about you," the Batman replied.
Robin feigned surprise. "Why Batman, I'm hurt! You know the only reason I haven't told them is your rules."
Batman smirked. "Good luck anyway, Boy Wonder."
Robin smiled back. "Tell Selina I said hi."
The tube announced Robin's arrival, jarring him from the past. He was excited. More excited than he had been before his first Robin mission.
Well, almost more excited.
Kid Flash was pacing at super speed when the tube dropped Robin at the cave. He stopped and stood unmoving for a good fourth of a second until speeding over and laying his arm around Robin's shoulders.
"Hey, Rob! Was wondering when you'd show up. You said you had something to tell me?" Robin smiled. His best friend's enthusiasm couldn't be stopped.
"The whole team, actually. Just let me change into my regular clothes first."
Kid Flash laughed, the ran away and came back as Wally. "Take your time."
When Dick entered the living room, he was still wearing his sunglasses. He wanted what he was about to reveal to be as surprising as possible.
He grinned when he saw his team. He had decided only to tell the original five members. (Six if you include him, obviously.) It wasn't that he didn't trust Zatana and Rocket, but he felt like if he was going to tell them it should be after the originals.
He strode to the centre of the room, cleared his throat, and put his hands on his hips. The throat clearing didn't immediately gain his teammates' attention, Wally and Artemis were having an argument, so he did it again. M'gann noticed and made everyone else notice, too.
"Thanks, Ms. M," Dick started. The Martian nodded and he continued. "I've called you all here today to reveal something extremely personal about myself. Something only a select few people know."
"I bet I know," Wally whispered loudly. Kaldur and Connor glared at him and Artemis whacked him on the head.
"Anyway, I guess I'll just come out and say it. Or, do it anyway." Dick sucked in his breath and took off his sunglasses. Everyone gasped but only Artemis looked like she knew who he was.
"Told you guys I already knew!" Wally said, whooping triumphantly. Dick smiled.
"I don't believe I've properly introduced myself. My name is Dick Grayson." He was extremely pleased that none of them had figured out his identity before then. Especially since Artemis went to his school. That was why she was the most surprised, she already knew him as Dick. The other three had no idea who he was. Wally only knew Dick's identity because he had figured out Wally's and wanted to tell him to even the playing field. Oh, and because they were best friends.
Wally faked a cough. "Richard."
Dick rolled his eyes. "Now that you all know who I really am, I can tell you something even Wally doesn't know."
M'gann and Artemis exchanged a glance, but Dick barely noticed. This was the part Bruce had been talking about when he'd said he was worried Dick wouldn't go through with it. It was even harder than he thought it would be, but he pushed his emotions aside.
