A/N: Guys I'm so sorry this chapter has taken so long for me to write. I'm hoping I'll have more motivation to write now that school's started! Anyways, this chapter is going to be in two parts because I didn't want to keep you guys waiting any longer 😭
Richie's POV
It had been a month since Richie had listened to Stanley and went to movie night at Bill's, and for the first time in over a year, Richie Tozier felt better than ever. He had decided that it would be best to put the past behind him, no need to dwell on things that wouldn't change. Afterall, he didn't have to worry about Connor Bowers or an evil kid-hungry clown showing up to ruin everything.
Him and his Eddie Spaghetti were getting closer again, much to Eddie's annoyance and excitement. He had begun to rethink his decision to fix things with Richie when he decided to fling his mushy broccoli into Eddie's applesauce at lunch.
The good mood that he began the day with didn't falter when it started to rain on his walk to school. His good mood continued even after he tripped over someone's shoe in the hallway and fell face-first into a locker, causing Eddie and Stan to laugh. His mood didn't even change when Henry Bowers glared at him during lunch. However, his happy mood came crashing down when Mr. Delancey set a stack of graded papers in front of him.
On the top of every paper written in bright red marker, was one letter: F.
He stared at the papers in front of him while Mr. Delancey droned on and on about Romeo and Juliet and their tragic love. He had only ever received one F before, and that was in kindergarten when he thought it would be smart to pull down his pants and show everyone his batman underwear during show and tell. He waited impatiently until the bell rang, before marching up to Mr. Delancey's desk, papers in hand.
"Mr. Delancey," he said, gaining the attention of his teacher. "I think you've made a mistake."
"What on earth would you be referring to, Mr. Tozier?" Mr. Delancey asked, a look of bewilderment across his face.
"Well you see, sir," Richie started. "There's a big red F on the top of these papers. I'm not sure if you know, but the only F I ever received had to do with Batman underwear."
Ignoring the Batman comment, Mr. Delancey began to explain the situation. "Well, Richie, you don't seem to have any idea about what's going on in the story, which is quite obvious from your exam grades."
"But sir," Richie countered. "I've been paying attention in class. I know everything that we've been talking about."
"Have you done the assigned reading every night for homework?"
"No..." Richie sighed. "The thing is, sir, I never do my homework, not since third grade. Somehow I just always understand what's going on from the class discussions. I mean, that's how I have straight A's in all my other classes."
Mr. Delancey sighed, glancing up at Richie. "I'll tell you what, Richie. Since this is your first time struggling, I'll let you take a test in a few weeks to make up for these grades. I suggest you take advantage of this opportunity and put in work outside of class. I won't be so kind in the future."
Richie sighed in relief. "Thank you sir." He turned around to walk out of the classroom when his eyes connected with a pair of brown ones across the room.
Fuck.
He made his way over to where Eddie was waiting, trying not to think about the embarrassing scene Eddie had just witnessed. "Hey, Eddie Spaghetti! Waiting to escort me to your mother's waiting arms?"
"You're fucking disgusting," Eddie muttered as the two boys made their way down the hallway. "I overheard your conversation with Mr. Delancey."
"Oh," Richie sighed, adjusting his glasses in nervousness.
