✕ TW: Cursing, cute moments
The cool breeze of early fall filtered through the slightly cracked windows of the team bus, bringing with it the crisp scent of changing leaves and the upcoming fall season. The bus buzzed with the chatter of victory, their win still fresh in the air. Heeseung sat at the back in his own row, looking ahead as his team discussed their recent win. Coach Kim enters the bus and stands in the front.
"Good job winning the game today! And good job to Sunghoon for scoring the winning goal!" Namjoon says, pointing to the boy who was in the row in front of Heeseung. The bus fills with cheers and shouts. Heeseung gives Sunghoon a pat on the shoulder and sits back in his seat, pulling out his phone. His phone was blowing up with people messaging him congratulations and tagging on posts from the game. However, Heeseung was disappointed when he didn't receive anything from Jiwon. Opening his iMessage app, he clicks on Jiwon's name, their last message popping up, the day of the party, when Jiwon texted Heeseung that she had arrived safely home. Heeseung types out a 'hey' and hovers his finger over the send arrow. Heeseung hesitated but ultimately deleted the message and turned off his phone, staring out the window as the team bus drove back to campus.
"Where are you going at this time?" Jay asks with a raised brow as Heeseung puts on his shoes. After the team bus had arrived at campus and the four boys made their way back to the frat house, Heeseung ate, showered, and then changed his clothes. With his motorcycle keys in hand, he finishes tying his laces and stands up.
"Well dad, I'm going to see someone." Heeseung says. Jay scoffs at what Heeseung called him and rolls his eyes.
"Do you have a secret girlfriend or something?" Beomgyu asks, seated on the floor at the coffee table. Heeseung blushes at the word girlfriend. Jiwon as his girlfriend would be like a dream come true, well, one dream come true. The other would be winning the championships. Beomgyu widens his eyes seeing Heeseung's face turn a bright pink.
"So you do have a girlfriend!" Beomgyu exclaims, "Who is it?" It wasn't like his massive crush on Jiwon was a secret to his friends but saying that he was going to see her at this time of night would not only result in major teasing from his friends, mostly Beomgyu, but would also mean that they, Beomgyu, might follow him in secret like they, Beomgyu, had done when Taesan had a date with a girl from one of his classes.
"None of your business." Heeseung replies, sticking out his tongue. Beomgyu deadpans at Heeseung's childish ways of avoiding the question.
"You're so childish." Beomgyu comments. Heeseung scoffs and makes his way out the door.
"You're one to talk." Heeseung could hear Taehyun say before he closed the door. Making his way to his motorcycle, Heeseung puts on his helmet and starts his bike. Driving off the driveway, Heeseung's heart pounded in anticipation of seeing Jiwon, whether she was even there or not. As he got closer to the bridge, the small figure of Jiwon got bigger as Heeseung got closer. Her hair was flowing with the wind and she had on the black hoodie she always wore. Heeseung stopped his motorcycle right as she turned around to look at him.
"What are you doing here?" Jiwon narrows her eyes as Heeseung hops off his bike. Taking off his helmet, he brushes his hair back.
"Me?" Heeseung asks, pointing to himself, "Oh you know, just taking a midnight ride." Placing his helmet on the seat of his bike, Heeseung walks around it and hops on the railing to sit next to Jiwon.
"To here? This bridge? The one I'm always at?" Jiwon asks, raising an eyebrow. Heeseung lets out a chuckle.
"What can I say? Great minds think alike." Heeseung says. Jiwon narrows her eyes suspiciously. What kind of bullshit, Jiwon thought.
"Are you stalking me?" Jiwon asks, a playful gasp leaves her mouth. Heeseung gasps dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. Dude, I'm literally in love with you, Heeseung thought to himself.
"Stalking? Me? I'm offended, Jiwon. I was merely just following wherever my heart took me." Heeseung says. Yeah, I'm just saying whatever now, Heeseung thought.
"Uh-huh, sure. Seems more like you're following me." Jiwon crosses her arm, feigning skepticism. My ass, Jiwon internally rolls her eyes.
"Maybe my heart is drawn to this bridge's alluring charm. Or . . .," Heeseung leans in closer to Jiwon, his voice dropping to a teasing whisper, "Maybe it's you my heart is drawn to." Jiwon freezes and scoots a little away from Heeseung. Gosh, she's so cute. Heeseung couldn't help but smile as Jiwon tucks her face into her knees, hiding her blushing face away from him.
"You're ridiculous, you know that." Jiwon mutters, staring into the dark ocean ahead. A soft laugh escapes his lips. Boy oh boy was Heeseung in deep.
They sat side by side on the railings of the bridge, the moon casting a silver glow on the water below. The night was still except for the occasional gentle breeze of the upcoming fall weather.
"Is it just me, or does the moon look extra romantic tonight?" Heeseung leans back on his hands, playful grin tugging at his lips as he glances over at Jiwon. Jiwon rolls her eyes, hiding the small smile tugging at her lips that Heeseung didn't miss.
"I don't know, maybe it's just you." Jiwon says, staring up at the bright moon.
"Are you sure? Because it's doing something to me." Heeseung leans in again, his shoulder brushing her's, "Or, maybe it's just your company." Jiwon lets out a snort, trying to hide the fact that her heart skipped a beat.
"Do you flirt like this with everyone?" Jiwon asks, eyebrows raised. Don't fall for it, Jiwon, she told herself.
"Of course not." Heeseung answers, "Only for you." Jiwon shakes her head, looking anywhere but at him to hide the fact that her cheeks were getting warmer and warmer despite the cool breeze of the night.
"You're impossible." Jiwon tells him.
"And yet, you don't seem to dislike my flirting. It's almost like you enjoy it," Heeseung teases, his voice dropping to a soft murmur.
"Don't flatter yourself." Jiwon tried to sound uninterested, but the way her voice wavered gave her away.
"Too late." Heeseung flashed a smile, one that was both charming and making Jiwon warmer by the minute. "But, if I'm being honest, I'm the one who's flattered. Lucky even." This makes Jiwon turn to him.
"Lucky?" She asks, meeting his gaze, her hurt thumping loudly in her ears at the way his eyes sparkled.
"Yeah," he said, his tone turning more serious but with an underlying playfulness to it still there. "Lucky to be here with you, even if you insist on pretending you don't like my flirting." Jiwon opened her mouth to protest, but the words got stuck somewhere between her brain and her lips. Instead, she huffed, crossing her arms.
"You're so full of yourself." Jiwon rolls her eyes. Heeseung lets out a laugh.
"Maybe." He shrugs, leaning back again. "But you don't seem to mind." Jiwon narrows her eyes at him, trying to keep her composure, but the truth was, she didn't know how to feel. His flirting did do something to her and she hated the fact that he knew it.
Neither felt the need to speak anymore. The silence between them was comfortable, almost serene, as if words would only disturb the quiet connection they shared in that moment. As they continued to sit in that peaceful silence, the world around them seemed to fade, leaving only the two of them, bathed in the moonlight.
