Nickolai
“You're still not talking to me?”
I promptly ignored my brothers annoying voice.
“Seriously, it’s been three days.”
I focused on the meal Sarah had prepared for me. I had some steak and some veggies. She liked piling my plate, knowing I ate a lot. I decided to eat in the dining room tonight, needing a break from my office. It seemed to be suffocating me lately.
Ever since she had entered my space.
“Nickolai, you’re being dramatic.”
I voiced my annoyance with a sigh and dug into the steak I had cut up before he had so rudely interrupted me.
All I wanted for a moment was to finish my dinner before I had to finish my remaining tasks for the evening.
“Okay,” he said reluctantly before he sat down two chairs from me. Three would have earned him brownie points, but I never dared to say a thing. “What exactly are you mad about? The new Guard being her father or that I heard the moans of your little siren?”
Anger flushed through me. Red hot fury.
“What?” I demanded and his lips twitched, winning in finally getting me to say a word.
He leaned back into his chair and that smug little smile continued to grace his face. “Which one is it, brother?”
Definitely not the fucking first. Yes, I was messing around with an official worker of mine’s daughter, but what she and I had started long before he had come in the picture. I was too selfish to back down now. With how far we’ve come. That I finally have the freedom to touch her.
I slowly stood to my feet, and V's eyes darkened with caution at my towering height. My fists clenched beside me, and I tried to control myself, but I was barely holding on. The deranged part of me, the part obsessing over Cassandra was out at full play. I didn't appreciate the fact that my brother was trying to mess with my already bad mood.
“Relax, Nickolai. I happened to walk past the door of your office.”
Where my guards had stood too. Fuck. They had heard her too.
I was going to kill all of them. They had heard the sounds that she had made just for me. They were not for V and not for them. They were for me. I didn't want their dirty fucking ears anywhere near her. Or listening to her as she came all over my tongue and fingers.
“I had sent her to you.”
This time his voice was a bit rushed, as if he knew what to say to make me back down. He was the last person I was in the mood for. With Helena breathing down my neck, asking questions about Cassandra and my mother and father preparing to depart on their next trip, I wasn’t in my right mind to deal with anybody’s stupidity.
“Sit down,” he urged, and I stayed glaring down at him. It felt like minutes before I finally sat down, my appetite forgotten as one would expect when you had a twin brother more psychotic than yourself.
V leaned forward and placed his elbows onto the table to stare at me. “I knew that you needed her and I sent her to you, that night.”
Yes, he had openly egged her on to sit beside me at dinner the other evening and yes, I knew that he had sent her to me. Him admitting to it was what I liked. When my brother played games, his actions spoke louder than his words.
“What the fuck do you know about what I need?” I questioned, my overwhelming anger still evident in my voice.
My brother sighed and shook his hand. “I’ve been in your life for almost thirty years. I think I know when my big brother is starved for a fix.”
