" Marissa Baptiste Lovac?" The social worker called into her room.

"It's Missy." Missy said not looking up from her magazine.

"Well, Missy, someone's here to see you. He's very interested in seeing you today." She smiled closing the door to her room.

"Please no one's ever been interested in me since I was 8. I doubt this will be any different." Missy scoffed.

"Are you sure? Cuz these adoption papers saying that he wants to be your legal guardian seem pretty real to me." The social worker smirked.

Missy wiped her head around. "Don't joke like that it's not funny especially for someone like me who's been through all kinds of shi-" she paused looking at the papers in the social workers hands.

"You might not remember but this won't be the first time seeing him. He's been around for days now. He was the blonde guy that asked you about your Rolling Stones shirt." She said and Missy jumped to her feet.

"Are- are you sure you're not lying to me?" She asked in disbelief.

"100% Missy, you're going home today." The social worker smiled and Missy ran up and hugged her.

"Going into the system when you're two and going through the shit that you have takes guts. And it also takes a person that knows exactly what it's like to be abused. He's gonna take care of everything you need honey. Now, go get dressed and packed. I'll finish up some loose ties with him and you'll be ready to go." She smiled and left the room to Missy.

She really couldn't believe it. How could anyone want somebody like her. A 14 year old with more trauma and abuse than anyone you'll ever meet in an orphanage. Why did he want her?

Missy quickly packed all her clothes in her black duffel bag she kept everywhere she went. She packed the little clothes she had. The people magazine she'd stolen from the doctor's office. And her prized possessions, her small tiger stuffed animal her mother had made for her with black button eyes and a pink sawn nose. Missy sniffed it deeply. The smell of her father's cigars still lingered on the toy.

Missy put on her favorite shirt a green and white striped shirt and jeans and threw her bag over her shoulder and took one last look at her room. The pink sheets and blankets on her bed perfectly made and she wondered what other long term kid would be put in this room after she'd gone.

She slowly closed the door behind her and walked down the hall to the front desk where she saw her social worker and her soon to be guardian. A short man with bad posture and straggly blonde hair who dressed strangely.

"Ah, look who's finally decided to join us." One of the older women at the front desk said. Missy wasn't keen on any of the workers there and especially this one. She only liked her social worker, Shelly her name was.

" Marissa or Missy as you like to be called this is Roger Taylor. Your new guardian. If there's anything I can do for either of you please contact me. You know my number." Shelly smiled and put a hand on Missy back and leaned into her ear.

"You behave yourself, I don't wanna see you on another street corner half dead." She whispered into her ear and Missy nodded.

"I'll check in on both of you in a month or so. See how this one's settling in. I see that she'll be homeschooled." Shelly said looking down at her clipboard.

"Yeah, my good friend used to be a school teacher. She'll be in good hands with him." Roger finally spoke.

"Very good then, you've already picked up her medications I hope." Shelly asked sternly.

"Eh, no, I was gonna do that on the way home." Roger rubbed the back of his neck.

"Mhh, very well then. I'll see you two soon." Shelly said. She was about to walk off until she felt a slight tug in her sleeve. Missy was responsible for it. Shelly, a bit concerned turned around.

"He's not going to hurt me is he?" Missy whispered and Shelly shook her head.

"Missy I will never let you get hurt like that again. He's going to look after you to the best of his abilities. I'm sure of it." Shelly said and Missy nodded, hugged her tightly then let go and turned back to Roger.

Shelly waved them goodbye and disappeared back down the hall to help another soul find a purpose.

"Eh so I know it's kinda late in the day but there's this 24 hour breakfast spot right by the pharmacy where I'll pick up your meds and I'm dying for some waffles right now." Roger said and Missy giggled a bit.

"If you insist on going I don't see why not." She replied softly.

"Then that's what we shall do! Come along child no time to waste." Roger said and began to walk towards the door. Missy followed slowly.

"I better not see your mug around here again. Got it you prick?" The lady behind the desk said.

"Fuck off." Missy replied and ran to the door where Roger kindly held it open for her.

Her new life had just begun, with a man named Roger Taylor?
