Li Xiufen went to the kitchen to prepare lunch, while Fu Xiao and her brothers continued sorting the mountain goods in the backyard.

Mu Lianshen and Fu Weibao were busy chopping firewood.

The Fu family's home was abuzz with activity.

Before long, Li Xiufen called everyone to the table for lunch.

Fu Xiao scooped up her younger brother Fu Kai, who was engrossed in his work, and said, "Come on, stop working. It's time to eat."

Fu Kai, with his small, sweet voice, said, "Sister, I want to eat the chestnuts you make..."

"No problem, I'll make them for you tonight. But you need to help me peel the chestnuts, okay?"

Fu Kai nodded enthusiastically, his small head bobbing up and down, making Fu Xiao's heart melt.

It was just candied chestnuts, after all. She would make them for him.

For lunch, Li Xiufen had made a pot of savory dumpling soup.

Each person had a bowl of soup along with some steamed buns, which warmed them up.

After lunch, everyone went back to their tasks.

They didn't let Grandpa Fu help, so he went to the big tree at the village entrance to play chess with a group of elderly men.

It took the whole afternoon to sort and pack the mountain goods. Since they were already dry from being on the tree, they only needed a little sunning before being bagged and stored.

They left the chestnuts out to roast later.

After dinner, Li Xiufen made the candied chestnuts she had promised Fu Kai.

Next door, after hearing what Fu Yingying said, Li Yumei and Fu Limin exchanged glances, their mouths twitching.

Li Yumei was more dramatic, placing her hand on Fu Yingying's forehead and asking, "Are you running a fever? Why are you talking nonsense?"

Fu Yingying stepped back, her face slightly flushed. She muttered, "I'm not sick. I need to get married too. You can't keep me here forever. Ask the Fu family when it would be appropriate."

Li Yumei's breath became heavy, and her forehead twitched with suppressed anger as she gritted her teeth and said, "Haven't I told you? You're not good enough for them..."

Fu Yingying looked up at her, blinking as she explained, "I'm not talking about Fu Yu. I meant their second son or some other relative..."

Li Yumei's eyes widened, "You're not good enough for any of them!"

Fu Limin, standing nearby, signaled her to be more tactful.

Fu Yingying protested, "What do you mean I'm not good enough?"

"You're not good enough in every way, you fool..." Li Yumei pushed Fu Limin aside, who was trying to mediate.

She continued to scold him, "You're the one who always praises our daughter like she's a flower."

"Look at her now. She thinks she's a heavenly fairy."

Fu Limin shrank back, "But didn't you say our daughter was beautiful..."

"Does she have any other merits?" Li Yumei laughed through her anger. "I just ran out of words and said something nice. How was I supposed to know she would take it seriously?"

Fu Yingying began to sob, "Waa waa waa..."

Li Yumei, pointing at her tearful daughter, shouted, "Listen to me. Stop dreaming and focus on your studies. If you don't get your diploma, I'll just find someone for you to marry!"
