A long time ago, two races ruled the Earth: Humans and Monsters.
Everything was peace, humans and monsters coexisted; until one day a war broke out between the two species, after a long battle in which many died, the human species emerged victorious.
With the help of nine magicians, they locked the monsters in the depths of the Earth with a magical barrier which could only be destroyed with nine human souls and the soul of one monster.
The humans imprisoned the monsters in this place, with the purpose that the monsters that survived the war would die. What they did not know was that W.D. Gaster would come up with the idea of creating a "Core", which fulfills several functions so that monsters could survive or live underground.
The humans had a war among themselves to see who would get the monsters' former territory, so the human race was divided into nine kingdoms.
The fate of the nine wizards is unknown, but after banishing the monsters from the surface, magic was stopped, which led to fewer wizards on Earth.
