CHAPTER 2
— new home"welcome to your new home (y/n)! i hope you grow to love it as much as we have." fuyumi smiled brightly as she showed you to your new room. it was spacious yet cozy, soft natural lighting poured in through the large windows draped with delicate curtains. the walls were painted a calm muted color and your bed was placed near the window with just enough space in between for the nightstand. there were small personal touches, like a vase with fresh flowers and a framed picture of you and shoto as children.
although you were living with shoto, the two of you would not be sharing a room anytime soon. that was the smart planning of Endeavor. in a way he saved you from what could've been some awkward nights.
"thank you so much fuyumi. it's beautiful here." you bowed towards her before she left you alone, and you weren't lying, their home really was beautiful. it smelled fresh; a blend of sweet flowers and what you assumed to be green tea.
you grew up with the todoroki's but it was only a couple years ago where they moved out from their childhood home and into a much larger one closer to the city.
for the first couple hours you sat quietly inside your new room, getting familiar with everything around you. that was until you got a text from Endeavor.
boss ♨️
E: looks like shoto will be busy with missions
the next couple days so unfortunately
you won't be able to see him.no worries mr.todoroki!
fuyumi has made me feel incredibly
welcomed so thank you!E: no problem (y/n), it's the least
i could do.*ᶜˡᵒˢᵉᵈ ᶜʰᵃᵗ*
you left the conversation at that and quickly tossed yourself into bed. the soft sheets doing little to comfort the familiar ache of emptiness. it was a feeling that lingered, one that you'd known too well in your family's home. as you stared at the ceiling the weight of the situation became clearer. this isn't the life you wanted, and no matter how much you wished for a different path, it was too late to change your future. it was set long ago and any hope for freedom had faded.
as you lay there, lost in the thoughts of your empty future, your phone buzzed, startling you for a split second.
INCOMING CALL:
— bakugo ( 。 •̀ ᴖ •́ 。)💢you groaned at the pure sight of his name. every time he called it was the same routine: endless comments about what you did wrong or something you needed to improve. it was as if he couldn't let you breathe without pointing out every mistake you made or could've made. your thumb hovered over the screen for a second, contemplating on whether or not you wanted to speak with him, but you new if you ignored him he just would've kept calling.
📞
(y/n): what do you want?!
b: seriously?! you're picking that tone with me? fuck you.
(y/n): you're the one who called me
so pull that stick out your ass
and tell me what you want.b: well, lucky for you best jeanist is hosting some sort of stupid ass party—
(y/n): what does this have to do
with me?b: if you stopped interrupting me then i could tell you ... good you're quiet. best jeanist is hosting a party at the agency
and he is demanding i bring a plus one
so now you get to go with the most awesome dynamite.(y/n): no thanks.
i'd rather freeze to death.b: too bad. you're names already on the list.
so don't be late dumbass!(y/n): did you not hear me?!
b: i don't think you heard me. you're going to this party with me whether your like it or not and just so you know, i don't like it.
📞 ❌
and just like that he hung up. truthfully, you were one of the only girls—besides mina— in his contacts and with best jeanist firmly requesting a plus one to his party, bakugo was out of options. truth be told, he was tired of seeing bakugo so lonely and you had become his last resort.
best jeanist could clearly remember the bond you'd form during the internship period, noticing how bakugo's demeanor shifted when you were around. there was always something different in the way he acted when the two of you were together. there was a noticeable shift in his behavior. his usual harshness seemed to give way to brief moments of patience and while he never left his guard down, there was a more thoughtful side that emerged. he listened more intently, his responses less biting. your presence made him feel relaxed.
however, that was high school. he had no idea of the status of your relationship and even the history. best jeanist has no idea how this interaction between the two of you could go. would it elicit positive emotions or would he go haywire or blow up in your face?
soon after bakugo sent a photo of the invitation which told you in greater detail the purpose of the party; best jeanist was hosting a celebration for all the years he's been at duty for.
it wasn't till another couple weeks so you had time to plan all your hero duties around his party.
what you couldn't wrap your head around is why, out of all the people in bakugo's contact list, he would choose you and not midoriya. there were others much closer to him. although the two of you had been close once, it fell apart, leaving behind unresolved tension. best jeanist was clueless to this however, believing that there was still possibly something there between you two that could create a deeper connection. not only that, but the world was clueless of the life you lived with shoto todoroki and what was to become of it.
"what a weirdo," you muttered to yourself, finally silencing your phone and letting your body sink into the mattress beneath you.
you were exhausted, physically and mentally, drained from the weight of your families expectations and crime fighting nights. as you stared at the ceiling your eyelids begin to feel heavy and sleep began to pull you under. thoughts of spending the rest of your life with todoroki and the past memories of what once was.
