Virat left for Delhi while Mahi was called to attend an BCCI meeting after 2 days.

The atmosphere was tense as everyone prepared for the upcoming series against New Zealand which was just two days away.

'Surendra Bhavesh' head of the selection committee, led the tense discussion on the team for the upcoming New Zealand series with members evaluating each player's performance around the large mahogany table.

Mahi dressed in a crisp white shirt with his sleeves rolled up and black pants, sits at one end. He was calm and composed.

As the meeting progressed, Mahi gave his input, sharing his preferences for the team lineup. The room was filled with the soft rustling of papers and the occasional murmur of agreement or dissent.

"There's a slight change in the team" Subroto Das begins.. his voice is measured as if he's weighing each word.

Subroto continues "we've decided to drop Virat from this series. He couldn't continue."

The words linger in the air like a heavy cloud. Mahi's reaction is swift but restrained though the tightness in his jaw reveals his inner turmoil. Meanwhile! Goel smirks at Mahi.

Mahi's gaze locked with Goel's across the large mahogany table, his smirk grew and Mahi's eyes narrowed as he absorbed the weight of the unspoken challenge.

Goel shifts slightly in his seat his hand moving to adjust the papers in front of him with a nonchalant.. almost mocking grin. "The decision was based on performance and he didn't do well in the last series."

Mahi's jaw tightened his eyes blazing with frustration. "It is not appropriate to deem a player's performance as inadequate based solely on the results of two series with lower run counts."

The room fell silent, the gravity of Mahi's accusation lingering in the air. The other committee members shifted uncomfortably as Subroto spoke.

"We didn't drop him after the previous Australia tour due to your request and despite your insistence.. we included him in the top 15 for the last two series. However! he's not performing and we need to drop him."

Bhavesh then spoke up "we understand your concern about your player, Ms but with the World Cup just a few months away, we need to make tough decisions. We know Virat is a talented and young player but he has only been playing for a few years. Giving his place to a more experienced player might benefit the team."

Mahi asked "Is this decision being made for the benefit of the team or is it influenced by someone?" He cast a pointed glance at Goel.

The weight of Mahi's question left the selection committee fidgeting in their seats.

Goel's lips curled into a devilish smirk as he locked eyes with Mahi. He leaned forward slightly his voice dropping to a cold warning tone that sent a chill through the room.

"MS! try to understand" he began each word laced with a dangerous edge. "We've always given you the team you wanted. We understand your concerns but this time, we won't make any changes just because someone close to you isn't included. We've listened to you before but now it's your turn to listen to us and accept it."
