The waiting room was empty, Tanya was the only person there, waiting for the results of her medical check-ups. Tanya heard her name echoing around the room, someone was calling her. She entered the room and sat down in front of Nurse Greeny.
"Well, Tanya... I see you've given up certain drinks," Greeny said.
"That's correct," Tanya replied.
"You've also lost weight."
"Yep."
"However... your blood pressure hasn't gone down one bit."
Tanya let out a small sound of confusion and concern,"What?".
"Don't get very worried!" the nurse demanded. "That's exactly the problem here."Nurse Greeny revealed a list of events she had jotted down from her desk, "This list features all the times you have been in extreme worry and danger this fortnight. Your stress levels are so high that you might trigger a spider sense instinctively," she clarified.
Tanya read each event on the list, she was surprised to see how long her sheet was, there were events that she didn't even remember.
Greeny put the list away and looked at her patient. "I've been talking to the bosses and we've come to a consensus, you'll be given an extra day off!" the nurse commented. Tanya started wagging her tail in excitement."But they have set a very important condition, don't ask me why" Greeny added.
The clock read 18:47 in apartment 4b of the "Sweet Home" residential building. Kenny was quietly watching television accompanied by his friend, the fox-like dog who works or resides in a church, known as Foxxy.
Tanya entered the living room with some papers in her hand, she observed the apparent panorama and decided to ignore the fox, she had to talk to her roommate."Hey Kenny, guess what?" Tanya said cheerfully. "I got the day off to relax.".
"Great! And why exactly did they give it to you?" the scarred one asked.
"Oh, apparently my heart pressure has increased and they think it's because of my stress levels" replied the girl-dog.
"Oh naur!!" Kenny exclaimed worriedly.
"Yeah, it sucks, but they gave me the day off and told me to go with you," Tanya mentioned, "Don't ask me why."Although the Labrador specimen known as Kenny was confused by this condition, he was in no position to deny the option of a day off. With his tail wagging happily, Kenny accepted the invitation.
"By the way, what is he doing here?" exclaimed the girl yellow dog as she pointed at the fox-like creature, who was chewing on a plastic bone for some reason.
"Oh we're just hanging out, Pastor Foxxy is a really nice guy" was what Kenny Labrador replied. "Oh, okay, nevermind, I just wanted to know," Tanya replied. The next morning, Tanya and Kenny were packing their bags to leave for their next relaxation destination, the beach. Kenny looked happy about his paid day off, but at the same time he was worried about his friend's health. He didn't understand how such a normally relaxed woman could be suffering from stress problems. On the other hand, Tanya had her usual relaxed look, the look she usually used to hide her worries and discomforts.
Usually, people hide their problems and annoyances in a layer of comfort and false indifference. "What if we run out of gas?" "What if Frieza is resurrected?" "What if the sandworm from Dune appears in the middle of the beach?" These internal questions and worries could be sincere, but when they don't want to worry others, people just choose to hide it.
The car drove along the road until the sand began to take over the landscape.
"Hey, Tanya, are you sure you're okay?" Kenny asked with a worried tone about his friend.
"Of course, zero stress!" Tanya replied, one or another involuntary gesture betraying her lie. Kenny wasn't stupid, or at least not stupid enough to believe her, but he knew his friend needed relaxation and that was the only thing that mattered at the moment.
They both arrived at their beautiful and tourist destination, although they were struck by how empty the place was. "Wow, looks like someone thrown up a baby seal again" Kenny thought as he laid out a blanket on the sand and watched the waves roll in. Tanya looked around the empty place in disappointment, except for a food stand a few feet away. Kenny noticed her disappointment, so he decided to do what any man does when he sees a woman is bored, turn on some music. From a distance, the people at the food stand noticed the apparent arrival of tourists to the area, surprised to see two dog specimens daring to set foot in the place despite their warnings, both felt excited. The male of the two approached Kenny kindly, taking his steps in the sand carefully, almost like a child walking slowly in the night so as not to wake his parents.
He got closer until Kenny simply couldn't ignore the fact that they were breathing down his neck.
"Oh, hello... is something wrong?" Kenny asked.
"In fact, there is something we wanted to ask you," the man replied kindly. Kenny had no suspicions about the man's words, so he agreed to speak to him privately.
Kenny walked into the stall manned by the man and his wife. "You see, my name is Javier Puddle and this is my wife, Caddle," the man introduced himself and continued, "for the past few days our business has been threatened by a pest known as... the Sandworm!"
"Stop stop stop wait" Kenny realized that those people knew perfectly well his occupation despite not having mentioned it to him so his brain came to a simple conclusion "You contacted Kill It Inc. and they told you that they sent two pest controllers to neutralize your pest, correct?".
"It's... true," the man replied in confusion. Kenny realized that he was not warned to make him cash his day off with Tanya and end up working anyway, that was really insane."So... You will kill that worm?" Asked Mr Puddle. Kenny nodded reluctantly and went out to tell Tanya about the new job.
Tanya watched her friend come back from the place with a not very pleasant expression on her face, "So, did you bring food?" she asked kindly. Kenny was about to tell her about work but his mouth was not able to speak the truth at that moment.
Maybe it was her friend's smile, maybe he just wanted to be a good friend and take a worry off her shoulders, it didn't matter what she could or couldn't do, Kenny is too good a man to take away a person's happiness, so he did the only right thing in a situation like that, lie voraciously."Oh, what a beautiful day, perfect for a little swim, huh?" Kenny said as he waded into the ocean's shore, suffering from hypothermia because it was two points below turning to ice. Tanya laughed at his friend, That gave Kenny the strength to continue his miserable lie.
Kenny looked at the horizon and then looked back at Tanya, then looked back at the horizon and then looked back at a tree for some inexplicable reason and then back at Tanya. Kenny prepared his tongue and told the best lie he had ever told.
"Oh no, I forgot my... my cream for head scar and... nose blemishes... I'll go to the parking lot to look for it, I'll be back in at least two hours!" Kenny said, as he retreated in the direction of finishing off that pesky worm once and for all...Kenny stood in front of a giant burrow on the other side of the beach with Javier and his wife cheering him on his walkie talkie. "You can do it Kenny! Over" the man shouted "remember to throw the gas grenade before the net! ".
"Yeah, i know, this is literally my job, over" Reply Kenny. Kenny threw the grenade into the worm's burrow."Hey, Kenny, I have a question, over" Javier said.
"What's up Javier? Over" Kenny answered.
"Well, why did you bring a fishing net? Over.".
"What do you mean with why? To catch the worm! Over.".
"Oh... Do you think the worm fits into that? Over.".
"Sure... wait a minute, how big is the worm? Over.".
Javier remained silent for a few seconds and answered "over and out."Suddenly, a gigantic worm emerged from the sand, swallowed the fishing net as if it were a hook and kept its gaze fixed on Kenny.
"How lean sheat" Kenny said out loud....
"The next chapter will be in less than a week, I swear"
