Raman had spent a long time discussing things before finally deciding to head out in search of Rukmini. He combed through the camp, but she was nowhere to be found. His mind spiraled with worry and regret, his harsh words and actions replaying over and over. Her absence struck him harder than he expected, making him realize how deep his feelings for her truly were, even if he hadn’t fully understood them before.
As he wandered through the camp, retracing his steps, his heart sank further into fear and remorse. He couldn’t help but remember the moments they had shared before he left for Agartala. His search became frantic until a guard, panting and out of breath, found him near the stables.
“Sir,” the guard said between breaths, “Rukmini was returning to her house when some Samiti members started chasing her.”
Raman’s heart skipped a beat. Without a second thought, he mounted a horse and set off at a gallop to find her. The streets of Dhaka blurred as he raced through them, his mind focused solely on Rukmini. Every muscle in his body tensed with determination. As he turned a corner, he spotted her running frantically, fear visible in her eyes.
In one fluid movement, he leaned down from his horse, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her up onto the saddle. Rukmini gasped in shock, feeling his strong arms around her and the warm breath against her skin. The terror that had gripped her melted away as soon as she heard his voice.
“You’re fine. I’m here,” Raman said, his voice steady and comforting.
Rukmini clung to him, her heart pounding, not only from fear but from the sudden closeness between them. They rode swiftly through the streets, the pounding of the horse’s hooves matching the racing beats of their hearts.
