You wished you could forget everything about the encounter you had yesterday, but unfortunately, that was something that highlighted your mind as you sat in your kitchen.

Your eyes flickered down at your plate of two burnt toast, each poorly smudged with artificial butter that you guessed was already expired.

There was no such thing as living in a poorly, neglected household in your life. You were so used to this behavior that it was luxurious for you to even be living under a roof.

Perhaps to your own brother was this no luxury.

As you learned over the years, he was better than all of you. That meant he deserved better than all of you. Which you guessed was why your mother went out of her way to do everything for him.

You couldn't say you were jealous of him, nor you hated him. You never did speak with him, it had been years to be exact. How could you feel envy over someone who hadn't made contact with you?

You felt like you just existed in his magical world as he brought honor to your last name. He was born with talent like most of the prodigies in your school.

Perhaps like Mattheo. You could imagine how proud his family must be, how honorable of a person he was. Especially when he mentioned he was the son of the man who ran the government. The government that controlled your land that you still knew nothing about.

Your eyes flickered towards the ceiling of your kitchen, fixating them on the pale color that seemed to fade in a darker shade when it came close to a corner. You gulped down the ball of saliva in your throat.

Maybe Mattheo's idea wasn't as bad as you perceived it to be. Perhaps there were benefits that could help you as well, such as getting information about the government. You knew life here was nowhere normal as everyone said it was.

Something sinister was going on.

It was weird that you lived in a land that was unknown, when many countries existed outside of here.

You wanted to get out of here. Of this isolated place and visit countries stated in textbooks, like Korea— the place where Jun had mentioned to you.

Never once did you ask Jun how he ended up in this place. You didn't know why you hadn't, but something in you prevented yourself from asking. Maybe you were scared of what he was going to say. Maybe you weren't ready to find out the truth,

Or maybe you felt like the government was watching you.

You shivered.

You couldn't let anyone know. You had to do it alone. You had to escape alone, even if it was most likely impossible.

It was still possible, with Mattheo's offer— it was possible. You could use him like he would use you.

You sighed.

It wasn't like anything good in this life happened to you. It was one of the reasons why you were so persistent to leave, what difference was it going to make if you disappear from here?

The phone beside you vibrated, making you snap your head down to your device.

Quickly grabbing your phone, you turned your body as you opened the message that popped on your home screen.

You felt your heart unwillingly flutter as the familiar name, Min-Jun, came in your sight.

The two of you were close to the fact numbers were exchanged. You felt pleased that you now had 5 people in your contact list.

'Do you want to eat lunch together?'

Your fingers typed almost immediately at the message, your body reacting quicker than your mind as you pressed send.
